Speakers... POP!

I've just bought some speakers with 4 - 8 ohm. My amp says 8 - 16 ohm. The speakers are 100W long term, 170W short term. I don't know what watt my amp is. If I turn it up full blast (which I'm so tempted to do - sod the neighbours) will I blow my amp or speakers?

If you do turn it up full [ sod the neighbours ] I sincerely hope it does blow up, sadly it will only blow the equipment and not the noise polluter. :eek:Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Why would you want to turn it right up? My kit is uber loud at 12 position.
You're also likely to damage your amp if it's underpowered..0 -

Don't tell him that.
Hey O/P leave it full belt next time you go to the shops for your ' white lightening and a chat Chat wiv de otter Chavs in yer trakikie bottoms if it doesn't pop the amp, blow the mains and set fire to your gaff you may in any case have uniformed visitors on your return.
Better still if you live in social housing you will find the white eviction notice served under a drawing pin on your front door. Let me know where you live and I'll send a free years supply of pins to your local authority / housing association. If your nice neighbours can't afford to take you to task I'll fund the brief & all costs for them.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Youll blow your amp. The speakers are basic speakers youd buy anywhere, but your amp is low powered (What is it?). Youll probably blow your amp in time just by using the speakers
When the amp blows theres a chance itll damage the speakers (roll a dice for that one):idea:0 -

Damn. I bought my kit from Spinal Tap 'cos it goes up to 11. I've been conned!0 -
It's pot luck as to what will blow first, should you run everything at full tilt.
Much will depend on how tolerant the amp is of lower impedance speakers, the power output of the amp, the overall quality of the amp and speakers, etc etc
So given the sketchy detail you've supplied, we don't know - but we all seem to be hoping that you don't try it at full whack, for your neighbours' sake if nothing else.....
Why do you need to go for full volume? Isn't it loud enough at one-third or half volume?0 -
If you heard my neighbours you'd be a bit less sympathetic.
Anyway, I only wanted to see how loud it could get (out of curiosity and temptation) for a second or two.
The amp is 115W, but now I've connected them to a 170W amp. Should be a better match.
Now another question: The amp says 4ohm or more. What is more? 6, 8... or 2, 1?The View Belongs To Everyone0 -
