Not returning unclaimed handed in money

Update, sorry to be late posting this.
Anyway, I finally managed to catch up with the manager of the store and its all sorted. Apparently "no one ever comes back to claim unclaimed lost money" so that must be why I was told they just bank it, but he arranged for the £10 to be handed over, so DD is happy (and just in case some were wondering £5 was promptly donated to the first donation box she saw with an animal on it! Thanks to all who took an interest.

I have handed things in (rings) to the police station and they were unclaimed so returned to me, the finder, after a period of time (3 months, I believe)
If the police can do this I see no reason why the co-op, or any other place, shouldn't...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

It's perfectly reasonable for them to have banked the original £10 note as having the cash sitting around is a responsibility they can do without. The problem was them refusing to give your daughter another £10 when asked!
Glad you got it all sorted.
I guess the lesson learned here is that if you find £10 on floor at a supermarket push it in your pocket and say nowt!0 -

Totally agree and well done OP for helping your daughter get it sorted and teaching her about right and wrong ( shame there is not more of this these days )Mark_Hewitt wrote: »I guess the lesson learned here is that if you find £10 on floor at a supermarket push it in your pocket and say nowt!
No - I guess the lesson here is to hand it in to the Police Station who DO have a nationwide policy of handing it back if unclaimed. :T“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0
