Not returning unclaimed handed in money

What exactly are you complaining about? Anything that you can say about them keeping the money can also be said about you - it's not your money either. The Co-op are legally right here and complaining to head office will not get you anywhere as they have recently issued communications to all stores regarding what should happen in these instances. The only thing you could complain about is being told that you could have the money in 6 months - but all they should say to that is "oooh, we'll retrain the assistant" and they just have.
And that is where good customer service falters. Firstly, as you can see from the responses to the OP most people would complain too. You are......
Do you know what? I really cannot be bothered to argue the rights and wrongs with you. I give up.0 -
If it had the Queen's head on it, then it was mine...0

This would be a good subject for a moral dilemma in Mr Lewis's weekly email ... what would you do, knowing Co-op policy was to keep it?
I like to think that I would take it to local police station. Certainly would not hand it in to Co-op but would go to customer services and explain I had found an amount of money, not stating how much, and that it can be claimed from local copshop.0 -
I's say that the money found belongs more to the OP than the Co-OP.
I'd go back to the store and have a chat with the manager.
Remember this money was found by a child whose parent was doing the right thing and that child should be rewarded for their honesty not conned.0 -
Well Tizz what a can of worms you opened
Don't let the purposefully confrontational responses bother you, you always get that on here whatever the post is about, and I 'guess' everyone's entitled to their opinion... :undecided
Anyway back to the point of the post, which you are right, was just asking for people's opinions which is what MSE is all about. I asked at our local Co-op and contrary to what has been stated above, the Co-op do not have a nationwide policy, it's down to each store to decide what to do. Seems you just don't live near a morally-run store, quite funny really when you consider all their shouted-about policies on green this, fairtrade that, local community the other... not really in keeping is it?
Maybe a point to remind the store manager of, if you do go see him, or something to add to your letter to head office. Not sure what good it will do but it will probably make you feel a lot better
Best of luck x0 -
Surely as the child found the money, it should be theirs to keep if unclaimed. The child was asking Co-op to hold onto the money in case the person came back for it.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

I'm surprised you actually remembered the £10 after 6 months, do you really need it that badly?0

This is theft on behalf of coop as it was not their money . However the police will probably see it as a civil matter . A letter to head office should do the trick , good luck . the Police would hand any money to the handeriner ( sorry couldnt think of a word) after 6 months if it was unclaimed and didnt come from a criminal activity.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0
