Guildford is vertical Crystal Palace is horizontal see post 5

Don't see your point as the OP has not stated which way their aerial is orientated.

    This really is very strange.

I thought that (with your help) I'd established I'm on the Crystal Palace transmitter. My friend says she's definitely on Crystal Palace and my aerial is pointing in the same direction as hers.

    I can receive Ch5, she can't.
I've lost ITV3*, she still gets ITV3 plus the other channels I lost, i.e. FIVEUSA, FIVER etc.

*very occasionally I get short access to ITV3 (like this morning about half an hour of House of Elliott).

Also, what is odd, is that programmes I can watch without any problems actually show far less signal strength than ITV3.

Oh oh - it's back again, along with the other lost programmes - broken sound/pixellated, but showing good strength. It'll be gone again shortly I'm sure.

Does this all tend to suggest a dodgy aerial, cable or something else?

Hannington is southwest of Bracknell I am just north of Aldershot and on hannington tranasmitter and do not get freeview.

Freeview channels are not transmitted in a south-easterly direction from Hannington due to potential interference with/from the Guildford transmitter. Aldershot is in the middle of the area not covered by Hannington freeview because of this.

When I lived in Tongham we got analogue from Hanngton with no problems but had to use Crystal Palace for freeview.

We are right on limit of Hannington transmitter, Aldershot is further from Hannington than Reading and we are further still.

I thought they did transmit just at a weaker level, I can’t get Crystal Palace because of Ash Ranges.

When I looked into it when living in Tongham I think the signal was transmitted at a weaker level, but that level was practically zero. I did find a document on the net back then that said there was a massive null towards the Guildford direction, so south-easterly.

Reading from here http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/hannington/hannington07.php "The digital radiators are on the west side of the mast (slightly north of west) and face south-west, north-west and north-east. There's no planned coverage to the south-east at present! " it does look good for the future either.

For the OP, just a few thoughts.

Firstly, check the MUX column on this list www.radioandtelly.co.uk/freeviewchannels.html if you cannot get ITV3 then you shouldn't get things like QVC and Channnel 1 as they are on the same MUX. The same applies to your friend, if she cannot get Channel 5 she wouldn't get ITV1 or CH4 either.

When was the last time either of you carried out a rescan? Your first post mentions that you lost channels a while back, so perhaps that was when there was a retune. On the big retune in September 2009 Channel 5 "swapped" MUX with an ITV channel (I can't remember which), which may explain your's and your neighbour's situation.

Have a check through the full channel list on your box and make sure that the box hasn't saved some channels with programme numbers of 800 and higher - some boxes do this if they are getting signals from more than one transmitter.

A quick disclaimer is that if you do have a problem with the aerial, the retune may lose the channels until you get the aerial fixed.

I'm sure that that said "doesn't look good" when I typed it, then it would have made sense!! :rotfl:
