So many cards... which should I get?
    My situation...
I have £5000 @ 0% with Nationwide which is due in June
    I have £4800 @ 0% with a B&Q card which is due in May.

I'd like to transfer both of them over to the same card on the longest possible 0%. I'm not worried about BT fees as any interest I save should wipe them out.

I already have an HSBC card from several years ago (nothing on it, limit of around £4000). I cancelled my Barclaycard a few months ago (never used it) so I can't apply to them for 6 months. We've a mortgage of £90K offset with £40K of savings.

I've a salary of £32K and my fiancée has around £17K.

    So,
    1) Will anyone offer me a limit of over £10K?
    2) Will HSBC match their offer for new customers for existing customers?
    3) Any tips for which card to get? I don't want to apply and get turned down loads of times.

Thanks for your help, lovely people.

tryfen - all the card companies have their own lending criteria, so quite hard to advise. However, you are looking for a whacking initial credit limit, so you'll probably be best trying MBNA or one of the other cards from it's stable, such as Virgin. I'd say you'll be lucky to get a new account with such a limit these days, though, since the lenders seem to be tightening up on such things. Might be worth getting, say, MBNA for as much of the transfer as you can, then talking nicely to HSBC for an existing customer deal for as much of the rest as possible....

  • My partner also took up the HSBC offer and got the letter amending the finish date. I just logged on here ( & it's my first post!!) to see who else has had the problem and if there is anything he can do about it -

I can't find any other replies to Stripee post below... Has there been much discussion here about this issue or are we up against the Giant?

    Hi

I hope this hasn't been posted already; I genuinely think it hasn't, but need some advice, as it doesn't seem quite right...

I applied for, and was accepted an HSBC Credit Card as advertised (and still being advertised) "Our Credit Card offer gives you 0% interest on purchases for 6 months from account opening and 0% on balance transfers until 2nd April 2008".

The t's and c's came through, everything was fine, and then about 4-5 days later I received the following letter:

So basically they have gone back on their original offer and lopped 4 months off the 0% period. Please could someone advise? This seems pretty wrong. When I took it out in January, one of the reasons I was less concerned about paying 2% admin fee was because it came with 16 months. They then decided to make it 12, which makes the 2% a little less good value for money...

I find the whole thing quite misleading and it concerns me that I'm not the only person this may have happened to.

    Thanks in advance

    Welome to the Website! :T

Yes, you can move your wife's debt to a card in your name, any name really; however in doing so you assume responsibility of the debt.

    But short answer is yes!

I am currently working on reducing my debt & my current plan is to combine all my debt onto one credit card rather than having it spread over several different cards / overdrafts with various different interest rates.

Recently I had 4 x credit cards & 2 x overdrafts however I have reduced this 2 x credit cards & 1 x overdraft by combining the debt & using my savings. I would like to transfer the debt onto a "low rate for life" card rather than constantly chasing the 0% rate, however I am worried that I will only be accepted to transfer part of the debt rather than the full amount. This would then mean transferring the remaining debt onto another card putting me back into my previous situation.

What I want to know is whether or not I can find out from the credit card company what limit I would be given prior to applying for the card so that I would know if my complete debt could be transferred?

If anyone has any advice in this area I would be very grateful

Have any MSEs signed up for the Ulster Bank card, which is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group?

I sent them an email on Monday as you have to be sent an application form.
My current 6 month interest free and no fee for balance transfer deal is with Norwich and Peterborough Building Society which is part of Halifax/Bank of Scotland group and comes to an end 23rd April. Immediately prior to that I was with the Post Office which is operated by the Bank of Ireland.
Like most of us 'tarts' I'm bemoaning the fact that we are being asked to pay a fee for transferring our balances. It's becomming ever more difficult to avoid.
Seems to me that there is a good marketing opening here for any bank who wants to get our buisness and hope that we won't move after the intital period runs out:D
I wonder if our leader:money: could include the group the organisation who offers the card belongs to when giving details in the site listing? As we know, you can't immediately transfer to another card within the same group and it would save us time looking at any cards which will only say we already have a card with that particular group.
