I could kick myself at how thick I am sometimes! Did a shop for ESA this morning, a bit out of my area and spent £9. BeforeI left I Googled the address and recognised the picture of the store that came up. Just filled in the report and the hub # didn't match so I re-Googled it and yes, I'd gone to the wrong store. Just shows what happens when you get an idea fixed in your head. As a punishment I am making myself go into the freezing cold garage and sort out the chest freezer....if that doesn't focus my mind nothing will!!!

Has no-one told them that remembrance day was on thursday?

Yes but we are one of the few countries who does not remember our war dead on the day but the nearest Sunday - we dont get a public holiday for it either.

Whilst I realise its a bit of an inconvenience for photos etc for one week the RBL/H4H and all of the other veteran charities do a sterling job all year round so have a bit of understanding please ;)
[FONT=Verdana, Verdana]'Please wear a poppy', the lady said
and held one forth, but I shook my head.
Then I stopped and watched as she offered them there,
    And her face was old, and lined with care;
But beneath the scars the years had made
There remained a smile that refused to fade.

A boy came wistling down the street,
Bouncing along, on care free feet
His smile was full of joy and fun,
'Lady', said he, 'May I have one?'
When she pinned it on, he turned to say,
'Why do we wear a poppy today?'

The lady smiled in her wistful way,
and answered, 'This is Rememberance Day,
And the poppy there is the symbol for,
the gallant men who died in war,
and because they died you and I are free--
Thats why we wear a poppy, you see'.

'I had a boy about your size,
with golden hair and big blue eyes.
He loved to play and jump and shout,
free as a bird he would race about.
As the years went by, he learned and grew
and became a man--as you will, too.'

'He was fine and strong, with a boyish smile,
but he'd seemed with us such a little while
When war broke out and he went away,
I still remember his face that day.
When he smiled at me and said'Good-bye,
I'll soon be back, mom, so please don't cry'.

'But the war went on and he had to stay,
and all I could do was wait and pray.
His letters told of the awful fight,
(I can see it in my dreams at night),
with the tanks and guns and cruel Barbed wire,
and the mines and bullets, the bombs and fire.'

'Till at last the war was won-
and thats why we wear a poppy son'.
The small boy turned as if to go,
Then said 'Thanks lady, i'm glad to know.
That sure did sound like an awful fight,
But your son-- did he come back alright?'

    A tear rolled down each faded cheek;
she shook her head, but didn't speak.
I slunk away in a sort of shame,
    and if you were me you'd have done the same;
For our thanks, in giving, is oft delayed,
though our freedome was bought-and thousands paid.

And so when we see a poppy worn, let us reflect on the burden borne
By those who gave their very all
and asked to answer their country's call
That we at home in peace might live.
Then wear a poppy. Remember-- and give!

I wonder if someone can help me please.I did a job for Re for a health shop and can't find the freepost address( I can't find the paperwork but then I have just moved house):o to send the receipt to.Could someone pm me it please? Thanks very much

    Check your pm.

I hate and love doing the health shops as I've always had excellent customer service which makes completing the report so much easier but I don't understand why they want us to scan the receipt, take a photo of the shop, attach the images to the report AND then send the receipt by post. It usually takes 3 weeks for payments to be approved!

Sorry but that's annoyed me remembrance should be every day.

    And Remembrance Sunday is tomorrow!

(Scuba who just found out one of her 'boys' from her NAAFI days got blown up and lost a leg last week :().

Sorry I didn't mean to offend! I wasn't born inthis country and we had a service on thursday at my uni so I assumed that was the only remembrance. Very sorry.

Sorry if it came across a bit sharp, I just found out about 'my boy' this morning, so it's all a bit poignant for me this year. He was incredibly lucky not to die of his initial wounds and to 'only' lose a leg. :(

But as kimitatsu and seredipity say we recongnise 11/11 as Armistice Day as that's the day when the peace began but the nearest Sunday after is always the day of the official Remembrance services, although many of us try to attend services on both days - I was lucky enough on Thursday to be invited to attend an event at a military training camp as well as planning to attend my towns service tomorrow morning - proudly wearing my own capbadge (though out of uniform as I'm TA currently without unit due to my recent move) and carrying both my Grandfathers medals (thus completing the family commitment to all three services as my grandads were RN and RAF, while I and my other half are Army).
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

I don't think anyone meant any disrespect in any way, I know when I made my first comment whinging about them being outside I was being a bit light hearted about it, and of course don't disagree with them actually being there or anything, and it wasn't a major thing, just made it a bit tricky!
Particularly as I think at the first one the Poppy man thought I was about to try and steal someones money or see their PIN number or something as I was hiding just around the corner where the ATM machine was!

I would also like to point out that I was actually wearing a poppy already when I went out this morning.

Very sorry to hear about your friend Scubaangel.
