How about £1.5 million for a house a hundred metres or so away from the M1:

Not only do you get beautiful views of the treatment works (it was presumably built for on-site workers) you are in the middle of a railway line triangle.Been away for a while.0 -

That property is about 4 miles from me and although the house is no oil painting and is at the bottom of what was a council estate a huge percentage of the houses are now private properties. The area is also reasonably quiet - although you will very more than likely hear the delicate rumble of the A3/M25 - I do!!! Houses round here are ridiculously expensive ( on the opposite side of Brooklands Road is the St Georges Hill Estate where the likes of John Lennon, Cliff Richard, Mick Hucknall et al have all lived). Some of the houses on this estate are more expensive than where I live and out of my price range even if they are ex-LA proprerties. :rotfl:0 -

I may do - I've heard the name, but no idea who she (?) is or where she lives....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

No urban myth at all. The couple who owned the farm at the time of the compulsory purchase order refused to accept it. The authorities took them to court and lost. The judge famously said "a man's home is his castle, and only God can take it from him".
Both the couple & the judge were interviewed on TV a few years later.
This is not the only instance of a farmer beating the planners and forcing the road builders to re-route their road around the farm.Never Knowingly Understood.

I'd looked at this as a cheap flat. The property itself is just what i need but at the front of the property is a timber yard (could live with that) and an old gas works.
