morning............absolutely pouring down with rain here and freezing cold too (just put the heating on for a while too even though i shouldnt). not looking forward to all the outdoor chores today! i have been pottering around the house doing bits and pieces and anything i can to avoid going out really. will have to go and muck out and feed the pony later as DD at work today so mum to the rescue as always.
looks like im on the last few days of picking my gorgeous tomatoes (have stashed loads for the winter) and my cucumber plant is now wilting too!! leeks at least loving all this rain- leeks are the favourite in my house so i have planted 200....yep i did say 200... may live to regret it but i did stagger the planting over a number of weeks and was recommended a variety that lasts well into the winter months. we have leek and potato soup all the time when its cold with buttered crispy bread. could eat it now. good luck with the new allotment hope it goes well.....im pampered with that really..my hubby does all the heavy digging and i do the planning, planting etc. (basically he does whatever i ask cos he doesnt know a thing about plants or veg and hes happy toeat anything i do). my dad has an allotment too and we share seedlings , i do some and he does some so it all means less work all round really.
Dad has an allotment next to a butcher who has very little time and my dad has been doing bits of digging and tidying up etc for him when hes not there. The man came and thanked him many times over the summer and said how much he appreciated the kindness etc. anyway to cut a long story short he is giving my dad a huge pork joint next week as thanks (for free) to freeze for christmas. i thought this really nice, especially as dad is coming here for christmas and i wont have a joint to buy!!! every little bit helps so a few quid saved there.
whats your jobs list for this week? and your plans for the allotment ?

Hello FMF ( if that OK?)and Lucielle
rushed home Satuday and drew a plan for the new allotment....having looked at it again .....might take a couple of years to achieve my plans.... and a few £££££'s
am busy sourcing free materials and equipment at the moment as this has to be on a tight budget, hence I am keeping record in my signature of anything spent.
Busy Sunday, poo picked the ponies field, picked some hibiscus berries for drying, as the ponies love them in the winter. Then the rain reached us too
Managed to tidy the flat and cleaned the kitchen, DS hoovered the lounge. Put the dry washing away....I don't iron anything in my house....:)
Did some more tidying at my friends allotment dug the empty beds and covered over with black out material to stop weeds growing when my back is turned !! :eek:Took rubbish to the tip.
Brought home more tomatoes that have ripened- had none all summer then they all ripened on trays in the green house at the same time!
My allotment seems to have finished alot earlier than yours cucumbers, sweetcorn, bean etc all died off in sept. I would of thought our season would heav been later down on the south coast.
Made a batch of sausage risotto using half the tomaotes, one for dinner and 2 for the freezer, and egg mayo for sandwiches for mon/ tues....how long does it keep?
Made 3 apple crumbles with some of the apples my allotment neighbour gave me ....1.5 eaten already.
Am experimenting with freezing the apples on their own to see if ok, as not much room to freeze lots of pies!
Actually managed my first NSD !!!!
That was yesterday...Had to get up at 5.30 this morning to give DS a lift to work. Have another half day today so am going up to my allotment today to get started....have a pair of shears and a fork!!!:D
Hope you both have a good moneysaving day. Back later.Debt at LBM 2010 £40,640.17. Debt Free 2017 Debt 2023 £24k I didn't learn! Debt now £7,600. NEW Goal Debt free by 20270 -
Spent 3 hours clearing the Rhubarb patch....looks good for next spring...rhubarb Crumble yum! A couple of the other allotmentiers came over to say hello. one showed me there are a couple of fruit bushes hiding in the long grass too! A promising start.
Went to feed the ponies and cleared the field again. Their new treatment arrived today but the postie couldn't deliver so will pick it up before work tomorrow. Lets hope this one works!
Am really fed up with this now, am becoming the leper of the yard, everyone knows it's contageous and they are concerned their horses will catch it!! My friend won't even bring her dogs on the yard now incase they catch it
Glad when it's over!
To finish on a better note had my second NSD today

When our cows got it we used to put sump oil on it to kill it off, trouble is it lives in wood so a nightmare to completely kill off. Hope they behave for you. I was talking to a friend about going for some riding lessons so at least I get my fix.
