  • yup, I agree that shampooing them with anyting scenty seems to send them off on a hunt for a nice strong smelly thing to roll in.... dogs definitely dont like to smell of perfumed things... sadly, they would rather reek of eau de decomposition!

What shampoo promises that please? PAH used to stock loads and now it's just a few bottles. Still using the Bob Martin one but it does not smell all that. Would be nice if they smelt clean for just a few hours. What do dog groomers use?

I keep forgetting to look at the bottle for the name...but to be honest I think its much the same as all shampoos. I'm bathing dog less atm, because we've moved and no longer have the great dog washing shower. She actually just gets a little stinky herself, unlike our hairier dog, so I'm considering experimenting with dry shampoo through winter.
  • Ha ha, I have never met any of your four legged friends on here, but I am in love with all the little tinkers!!

I have the opposite problem tonight. I have had a rough day, walked the two dogs for miles, including dragging the youngest dog out of ankle deep muddy puddles. I am recovering from major reconstruction surgery on my ankle, and boy does it hurt today after all that walking, and then the housework on top of that. So my darling Dh ran me a lovely bath, filled it with bubbles using two Lush creamy candy bubble bars (my favourite indulgence), there I was, laying neck deep in lovely soft bubbles, candles nicely flickering, mug of tea on the ledge of the bath, slowly relaxing. I had been in there all of 3 minutes when Thunderpaws (aka the 2-year-old Dalmatian - Diesel) belts up the stairs and like a Harrier Jumpjet, he lauches into my bath and starts eating the bubbles, while the results of his earlier puddle jumping was quickly eeking out into my bath  (I did wipe his feet as he got in, but clearly not enough!)
I haven't moved that fast since before my op, desperate to get out of this now yukky looking bath!
I am now sitting here in my bathrobe, while Diesel is laying on his towel all smug and smelling of nearly a fivers worth of creamy candy bubble bars

I'll remember to lock the bathroom door next time!

Thats OK. I found some Johnsons Dog Shampoo in Jolleys and bought that and gave her a bath, 10 days on the smell is still there despite the odd roll. Its quite nice and not too overpowering either. I think it cost around £3.50. I did find a groom spray in there by Johnsons but have not used that yet. Maybe that is what you was looking for.
  • Thanks for this thread. We took our dog to the beach yesterday and he managed to find the most disgusting slimy dead fish to roll in:mad:

The beach is 60miles away so we had to drive back. I had to give the kids a poo bag each because the smell was making them feel sick.

Trouble was the only tomato based thing we had in was dolmio so had to use that. The fish smell has gone but I have spent all morning picking mushrooms out of his coat and the house smells of spaghetti bolognese.:rotfl:

Not sure whats for tea now either:o

The bathroom door in our house has to be closed when you're having a bath or shower- I've had mine do the same as yours, sleepystar. She's more than happy to jump in the shower and sits beside me with the tail going.... very fond of water. Banned, as the house gets soaked!

I always keep a bottle of surgical spirit and a roll of kitchen towel in my car ... You have to like the smell of the surgical spirit (which I do) and once applied, it knocks the fox poo and urine smells DEAD!
Some days I wake up Grumpy ... Other days I let him lie in.

I have no ketchup in the house, and her dog shampoo hasn't removed the smell...

Any other store cupboard things that might remove the pong without hurting her in anyway, or do I have to go out for ketchup?:o
