LOL at this thread.
I paid £20 to have my dog groomed the other day and she came in, ran into the garden and rolled in a slimy dead frog. OMG, the stench. I took her back into the garden washed her with the nearest thing to hand which was radox hand soap (lemon and lime) and chucked a bucket of warm water over her. The minute she saw the bowl of water she knew what was coming and the tail went between her legs. LOL.
Half hour later she went and done the same thing.
So she got another wash and I was off picking up dead frogs on a shovel from the garden. Bluegh!!
She has had no ill effects from the Radox - twice - so I think I might wash her in something more pleasant than dog shampoo in the future - which by all accounts costs a fortune and the smell lasts for about 30 seconds until they are dry. I guess anything for sensitive or baby skin would be sufficient? I've got some Halo's and Horns berry shampoo I might try.0 -
I don't think there's any smell worse than Fox poo- or you may know different. Lol. My Dog rolled in it at the park last month and I had to drive home with the windows open retching. She knew she had done wrong though and stayed still in the car rather than doing her usual shake. When I took her straight into the bathroom she looked at me and jumped straight into the bath. Considering her arthritis I was surprised to say the least.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Strimmed the garden last night- and had to rescue a collie who'd 'sprouted' various bits of topiary, including a 6ft nettle.
The Lab, on the otehr hand, found a clear spot, and kipped all day.0 -

You may want to read this post re: dogs and baby shampoo - I know it stuck in my head, because it really could be a false economy - its the ph that matters not the 'gentleness' ...

Having cared for a dog with recurrant skin problems, and knowing how hard it is to get on top of them, I would avoid using anything but dog shampoo - even if its just a cheapy one - I use Wilko puppy shampoo and it is grand.0 -
I'm sat here retching and laughing at the same time!
I've never heard of the ketchup thing - will it work for cow poo too? My lad avoids walking in the mud and cow pats but he adores to have a crafty lick of anything excremental before I notice and shout 'oi' at him. He's a musty little Staffie anyway and usually smells of wet dog even why dry. I use a puppy shampoo on him as he does get skin allergies. Would it be worth shoving in a dollop of ketchup at the same time??0 -

IME cow and horse just wash out well enough.
FWiW Dog-dog rolled again, twice, at the weekend. I stocked up on dog shampoo that promises to fight even the whiffiest whiffs.0 -

What shampoo promises that please? PAH used to stock loads and now it's just a few bottles. Still using the Bob Martin one but it does not smell all that. Would be nice if they smelt clean for just a few hours. What do dog groomers use?0 -
I've used passata and a tin of tomatoes since i read about this ages ago and its worked a treat.
But i have found my dog always does this when she has been washed with any fragrance shampoo...she will find anything smelly and roll in it  mustn't smell nice to her. She used to do this without fail every time we had her shampooed at the dog !!!!!!, so we stopped taking her.
So now i wash her in unfragranced and noticed a vast improvement in her rolling :T0
