    I used the AVG 2011 Remover from this page
    http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
    ...but actually also used a older version for previous AVG versions that I still had on disk, no longer on the AVG site.
  • I always used AVG until version 9 came out and it started creating hidden files in all root directories (internal and external drives). I read somewhere that this can cause file loss if devices are disconnected without using the 'safely disconnect hardware' procedure, possibly corrupting the FAT or NTFS. I've used Avira since with no probs.
