19" TFT Monitor

Hello
If the Hanns is the best 19" widescreen, then hw about the regular square screen monitor? Or is evrything widescreen now?
We don't use it for online gaming, the odd dvd, but surfing and office stuff really.
After something tat is likely to free up a bit of desk space as well, we currently have a 17"crt.

J400uk - With reference to the screen resolution, surely by the monitor auto adjusting to fit the screen you'd end up with a stretched picture leaving it looking rather blocky? Having not owned one yet I cant comment, I thought that the display would select its own leaving the other areas blank? obviously not the case after all...... interesting though
Donkeykong77 - As for this being the best 19" monitor, certainly not the case..... just a personal assessment/preference really, but after reading many reviews its one of the best in its class (price for specification), plus you'll notice that DAZED who owns one praises this quite highly.
As for the normal / widescreen comment, its merely personal preference.... the advantages I've read of widescreen is more desktop room and better for managing multiple windows......
However, for me though, as everything seems to be heading towards widescreen nowadays im just another lost sheep following the trend :rotfl:0 -
Hi All, just thought I'd throw in that I've got 3 of the Hanns G HC194D normal aspect ratio screens as mentioned breifly by ts_aly2000. I think they're reasonably closely related to the widescreen mentioned. They were £120 from Dabs a few months ago.
TBH they're superb screens, bright yes but that can be turned down, came with both DVI and VGA cables, and I used for Quake 3 at 125fps with nothing noticeably disturbing about the image (I'm no super uber picky gamer geek though - there may be something I miss). The only complaints I'd have are the menus are a bit counter-intuitive and it's almost impossible to get anything but the supplied leads in the ports at the back. However on balance they are superb!
BTW the xerox everyone's talking about - dabs has updated the description to say VGA only. Maybe the extra connections are for a higher model? I'd be surprised to see a £120 monitor yet with those connections on, seeing as the supermarkets/argos are still churning out 15"ers for £150.0 -
Is this a good deal or what ????

18" TFT Monitor (Slimline Frame) - Ex-Corporate Equipment - All units are tested before dispatch and come complete with a 30-day warranty.
These are not even refurbish but second hand, I would rather pay another £20 for something new and a warranty. Also there are no specifications, so what you get could be anyones guess but 1 thing for sure it will be 18"
Found another model on there site too, same as above but not slimline for £89

All this talk about 19" monitors, etc. I thought it might be a good place to tell you that I use TWO 19" monitors at the same time - sounds a bit odd, but most modern graphics cards allow you to run two at once - usually a DVI and a VGA connector (the DVI can act as a 2nd VGA connector).
It means I can surf multiple web pages at the same time and is especially ideal for web development (dreamweaver in one window, firefox in the other). You can watch films across both - but it's a bit annoying with the split in the middle. Games generally use only one monitor, too - but you can window most games and have other stuff running on the other monitor if you want with little, or no slowdown.
The two monitors I use have a very small border on them, so you can put them both together which feels like a very wide, wide-screen monitor... so for around £240, you could have two 19" monitors which would effectively feel something like a 30" widescreen monitor (someone else will have to do the maths).
The Nvidia drivers allow you to stop windows spanning each screen too - so it snaps them completely in one screen - which is very handy.
I couldn't do without two and will never go back to a single monitor at home!0
