I just re-read and you say it hangs on black screen for hours, I would have hoped it would crash by now. I will need to get some beauty sleep for now, and think some more.
Just so anyone picks up on the thread in the meantime.
1) Do you have any USB Devices Plugged in (if so try without them)
2) Which Windows have you Vista/XP
3) remove anything from the CD
4) What was the last thing that was done before the problems started (if you know
5) do you have a windows CD or just a Packard Bell repair disk
Good Luck for now and will check in the morning sorry not much help so far.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy

Is the windows cd you have Vista Home Premium disk ?
If so you can try booting from that and select repair your computer (DO NOT select install )
Then you can either select system restore and select a restore point from before the problem started or select startup repair .

Done what you said using the windows disk and tried the restore but it says no restore points available, so i tried the repair and it ran a repair and said system volume on disc is corrupt, but it said this was repaired successfully, and to restart, however the same thing happens again.£2 coin savers club = £118

Hi again,
looking terminal then. Is there any data you need to recover from the lappy ? And if so is there lots and do you have an external drive you can use, a linux Live CD or sysrescuecd will help with that.
Assuming that linux can read the disk !! it would also be possible to save the data using your Network to one of the other PCs in the house.
The other option that may save the system volume if you have no data to lose is to reboot with the windows cd again and select command prompt from system repair, then enter - CHKDSK /R
this tries to recover any back bits of disk (I am not sure if the repair option uses CHKDSK /R or CHKDSK /F - less rigorous)4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy
