Separate accounts, plus a joint one that we both pay a fixed sum into monthly and joint bills etc come out of - works for us...0

Same here, this is a topic that comes up regularly, just so you know..and get's heated responses!
20 years together, 12 years married never had a row about money and never had any issues paying the bills so it works for us too.0 -

I've been married to my DH for 10 years, and we don't have any joint accounts. My money is mine, his is his. He has certain bills that he pays and I have bills that I pay, and the food shopping we normally just take turns, as we do a big shop monthly. It's not that I'm against joint accounts, it's just that we've never really had the need to have one, that's not to say that we wouldn't in the future though:DDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

I would say as long as you are both good with money and have a good credit rating then it should be good. Check both of your credit ratings to make sure they're fine, and if they are it will fine.
I would say keep separate accounts as well, and use the joint one for bills and rent.etc0 -
We have joint accounts. Had them even before we married. It works for us, but its not for everyone. We consider it "our" money.COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:2 £50 DOMINOS VOUCHERS, 13 PAIRS OF FOOTBALL TICKETS, MICROSOFT HOME EDTN, 2 PAIRS OF ALTON TOWERS TICKETS, 1 CASE OF PERCY PIGS, 1 PAIR OF LEATHER LADIES GLOVES, 4 COLLECTION 2000 PRODUCTS, PLAYSTATION 3 WITH FIFA 12, 5* HOTEL STAY IN LONDON, SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL DVD, PERFECT PIZZA VOUCHER0

i find this "my money is mine" malarky very odd.
i earn a lot more than the missus but all our money goes into a single account.
i put a certain amount into each of our personal account for spending money, the rest pays bills, food and builds up as savings (offset mortgage)0 -
Years ago before living with DH some fiends of our had a joint account for bills, each paid the same amount into the account even though one of them earnt loads more than the other. My friend was the one with the smaller income and was regularly struggling for money whilst her DH had plenty, he'd always lend her some if she asked. I knew that wasn't how I wanted it to be. When we started to live together we both worked full time but OH earnt loads more than me, just like my friends situation. We did thing slightly differently, we agreed how much money we would each have a month as our own, I think it was only £100 but it was a fair few years ago, everything we earnt over the £100 was paid into the joint account. That worked for years, I'm not really sure what happens now. We both have salary paid into our own accounts and DH transfers varying amounts each month as he earns different amounts each month, I trust him to be tranferring a fair amount. I just use all of my salary to pay bills but have free rein on the joint account. We both trust each other and that works well. I'd hate to have been struggling for cash like my friend all those years ago and I think the way we did it seems much fairer - but as I've said I have always been the one with the lower income.
Pretty much as jayremoh does but we left an amount in each account each month, jayremoh transfers some to the personal accounts each month0 -
My husband and I have mainly joint accounts. Obviously we have ISAs separately, along with a small amount in individual accounts.
Money is paid into joint current account and all bills are paid from there. I would find it complicated to pay so much into separate accounts and he/she pays this or that bill.
Have been married almost 40 years and this system works for us.
Good luck0 -
Eeek, we must be really odd then. All the bills are paid from my bank account, and he just pays me his share once a month...
Then anything spare is left to spend on whatever we like. Sometimes its a weekend away (:)) sometimes it's a new motorbike (:-|)
It seems to work though... and at least I know all the bills get paid on time... (I might be a control freak, perhaps!)0
