Co-op bank accusing me of fraud!

Right, an update. I called up again chasing after the letter that was due to be sent out last Thursday, because surprise surprise I don't have it (supposedly sent out Monday... hmm.) The reason given by them is that the discrepancies were between different applications made to them - which is odd, because bar my work address (which has changed due to me moving locations a fair bit over the past couple of years) and my address (moved house last year and the year before, on electoral roll at each address and had accounts at all three addresses) I've given all the same information each time.
Long story short, I have to prove my last six years of address history. Luckily, I have these documents - a bank statement from my parent's house in 2008, a council tax bill from my old flat last year and a council tax bill from my current address this year - the very same one they already have a copy of! I intend to send all this off tomorrow Recorded Signed For, along with a covering letter requesting they reimburse me for all the phone calls and letters I've had to send them to sort out their rubbish, as well as £30 on top to compensate for the fact they've basically accused me of fraud for no good reason. I doubt they'll even read that mind - I did ask bluntly a while back after a call centre manager basically spoke to me like sh*t, to be told it was all actually my fault as I was the one who wanted to continue with the application!
Hopefully - HOPEFULLY - that's the end of it. Blah.0 -

Thanks for the updates - appreciated
This is typical of the co-op though - if something goes pear-shaped, it's a lifetime trying to sort it out as nobody actually wants to do anything & pass the buck & fob you off!
I've been with co-op many, many years & my OH works for them (retail) & luckily we've never had problems but, I certainly know of many others who have & they do 'stonewall' you!
Seriously you should get a current account through your local Credit Union as you're killing 2 birds with one stone:
One with supporting local credit union & the other is they use the co-op + the debit card looks nicerProudly Banking & Saving With:

I know how frustrating it can get when someone comes on, posts a long whinge and then never says anything about it again... I need somewhere to vent, anyway, updates help :P
I would go elsewhere but frankly I don't want to have p*ssed away a month for nothing. I'd at least like something to show for the bloody effort!0 -
Nah you vent away :rotfl:
It's no problem. It's now got to the principle of the matter and while it's easier to give up & ditch it, you might as well carry-on & keep yourself busy & hopefully them as they seem intent on messing you around over such a simple 'run-of-the-mill' account opening
I've been their a good few times in the past so it's cool - no worries. Anyway I've subscribed to this thread so I don't miss your 'updates'Proudly Banking & Saving With:

I opened a cashminder account in 2008 and was accepted. At the same time was accepted for a full current account with Santander or Abbey at the time.
So told the cooperative to get stuffed and returned the cards.
I stupidly got into a mess with the Abbey account with late charges and went back to the coop to open one up.
I have tried several times but i keep getting declined and they told me that i was providing discrepancies with my previous applications and wont go any further.
I wrote them a letter asking for more in depth reason as to why and they wouldn't give me once.
I since opened a Lloyds TSB account and since then not attempted to bother the coop but it seems i had the same predicament as you are having!
Interested to see if what you do works so i can do it as the Lloyds account is good but bad in terms of withdrawls.0 -

I had a Co-Op account and closed it then apply for a new one which was opened with no problems. If you are telling the truth then why are they saying that there are discrepancies.0 -
PARIS 5000, this might be a little bit of an odd admission to make but I can definitely understand what that guy was saying, as when I first applied for a Co-op Cashminder three years ago (no. this isn't my first application!) they declined me because of discrepancies then too. That time I didn't pursue it mind, because at the same time as I got the letter explaining this I also got my new card through from the then-Alliance and Leicester... two mistakes in one day!
It seems that if you apply for a Cashminder after applying for any other account, and your circumstances have changed in between, they treat it as a "discrepancy", which I treat as "incredibly f*****g stupid". I believe at the moment that my issue was that I moved house a couple of times over the past few years and that my job location has varied quite a bit while working for the same employer. Unless the Co-op are stupid enough to put down different names and dates of birth for me I can't really think of any other reason.0 -

I have a full current account not a cashminder. If your circumstances have changed since you last apply for the cashminer and this is refelected on you credit file and in other applications that you make with other companies why would they have a problem with this.
Do you always make sure that you are on the electrol roll for your new address ?0 -

It's typically the first thing I do.0
