30 degree wash

my 30 wash cycle was a cotton wash with a temp at 30 (I can adjust the temp dial) so the rinses are the same
I found this
http://mail.mtprog.com/CD_Layout/Day_1_21.06.06/1615-1800/ID3_Terpstra_final.pdf
the conclusion states thet hygiene increases with increasing temperature but adding an additional rinse as well as higher temperature is even better. Many microbes are NOT DESTROYED at lower temperatures
I hated finding this. I absolutely liked the idea of washing at 30
wow interesting article tho I have to say I didn't understand it all
If I understood it right though an extra rinse counted for a lot so might be worth giving this a try in the first instance? Tho of course this has environmental implications too...0 -
latest update. My DHs rash was very probably caught from two dogs that he often walks for a neighbour and it has cleared, so I am not blaming the ariel tablets
I have settled into using ariel and am happily washing at 30. I am getting excellent results and have even bought the ariel 30 colour tablets. As a precaution I am not letting any wet washing hang around too long and am drying most things in a heated bathroom. Heated only when the CH comes on but it stays warm for a long time. Washing is drying in quicktime0 -
Have a look a the www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk website which has lots of very useful and interesting information about washing machines. The link below is about detergents and additives. There's also info about smelly machines, soap drawers, maintenance wash ...

Hi, I have a really silly question here. I was trying to ask google and found the link on this thread, so thought would ask here. Ariel "turn to 30" washing powder- can you wash at 40 and higher as well, or is it designed ONLY for washing at 30? Sorry again for silly question:)0

Yes, it's perfectly okay for higher temperatures.

I would imagine that most people (in the UK) use higher temperatures to wash clothes as their washing machines can't do 30.Wins 2007 :Boots £125, XBOX 360 & 3 games 2008:5 David Gray CDs £10 DVD voucher 2 Crossed Bones DVD & chocolate Torch. Correct.
Also the results at 30C, in the field, appear to be variable with very little saving in reality so whether it's worth the trouble or not is open to debate.

On my Dyson it has 30-85 degrees selectable but also has a option for dirt/dirt and stains/heavy stains.
On 30 degrees you have to select heavy stains to come close to 40 degrees on the dirt setting. This longer setting adds 30 minutes to the wash so for me it probably costs less to run at 40!
I have a hotwater feed to the washer so save money not heating up with leccy either.Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
I started washing all my dark clothes inside out which solved the problem of white specks where you could see them. It also made it much easer to deal with the results of the inevitable tissue left in a pocket. But the real difference is that it seems to have reduced fading dramatically - I don't know why that should be but it certainly seems to workIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Thanks guys. I wash most of the stuff at 30 mostly because I'm paranoid of a colour run and generally works fine for us everything except white shirts collars, they need higher tempertaures as it seems.
And re white specks, I was getting them too. Now after machine finished I refold the stuff and put for an extra rinse.0
