30 degree wash

Soap/detergent is, by its very nature, antibacterial. Too much "I'm only a good wife/mother if I ..." going on here, perhaps?
When most people wash their hands, what do they use? Soap. How many then think that their hands are not acceptably clean?
Question answered really, unless you are a surgeon about to go into theatre.0 -
Have a look at the Ariel Link
It is worth noting that other powders/liquids can be used at 30 degrees. Tesco Coloured tablets say on the box to use at 30 degrees (not in big text on the front though).
I think it's going to become the norm.
I like to think that at 30 degrees there is going to be less limescale build up too......0 -
I`m not that impressed with ariel 30. The mixed whites didn`t come out sparkling. Oh well, I`ll finish the box and go back to my old ways0

Its not bacteria I worry about but my OH's shirts still smell of sweat when I'm ironing them (TMI?) even when done on 60 unless been soaked overnight, so I can't see 30 being better!
And no I wouldn't be a good girlfriend if I sent him to work smelling the office out! :eek:0 -
After reading that NZ, Aus and USA wash in cold, I might check my machine and wash cold then0

I've tried washing at 30- - but it just doesn't get everything clean!!
Think i will stock to 40!Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -
I'm ashamed to admit that even though there's just the 2 of us at home, we do almost 2 washes per day!
I've never really thought about it, because all my life, I have worn something and just chucked it in the wash at the end of the day - with little exception (jeans for example, I'll wash after a couple of wears)
Now that hubby and I are glued to this website and trying to save money everywhere and anywhere, I've come to realise just how much I waste!
I wash on 40 each and every time. Towels get washed at 60 or 90 and teatowels from kitchen at 60 and 90 every other wash. (I have like 10 tea towels a week!!! That's my OCD!!) The teatowels have their own wash backet, socks and underwear their own and everything else goes in main washbasket.
I am conciously going to try and cut down now, as realising that I am wasting so much energy (therefore ££) makes me want to face the challenge!!
To give you an idea - every day I wake up, chuck pyjamas/nightwear into the wash, shower and then get dressed for work, come home, chuck work clothes into wash (except if I'm wearing a suit that day) and jump into shower, get dressed in "house" clothes and these then get chucked into wash pile when I change into a new set of nightwear! So thats like 2 outfits plus one set of nightwear and 2 sets of underwear per day!!! (EEEEEK!)

wannabe_a_mum good luck, will probably save you a fortune, won't be easy at first, try reducing how much powder you use aswell, I use a spoon of washingpowder and the same of soda crystals now, has saved me a lot this year, probably close to £100
I do 30 washes apart from cloths wash and linen. I use 'normal' detergent, don't buy anything specific. Those who've changed powder to try this could try using their usual one, then check the results (I don't like Ariel)One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I haven`t used ariel for nigh on 15 years but I got sucked into the witches advert thing. lol. It was worth a try anyway
I second lil-me re the soda. I got excellent results with ecover, soda and those balls that thump the washing, also using persil non bio when I had the mixed whites wash on. I suppose I just got sidetracked when I went to tesco and I didn`t think I was guillable0 -

I think the smell is cos of bacteriaso someone on here told me when I asked about gym stuff smelling. a scoop of soda helps a bit with this I think. But hotter washes do help too...
