Received a letter today from Nat West to say they couldn't set up my esaver as they had 'further questions to ask' me.

I rang them up and explained that was a bit surprising as an account had already been set up for me.

They then told me they didn't have any questions to ask me after all :rotfl:

I am tempted to conclude it's monkeys that administer the esaver accounts a NatWest. That would be good news, since monkeys do whatever they are told.

So all we have to do is find the gamekeeper, and get some sense out of him/her. I for one won't stop before Stephen Hester in my quest to find the gamekeeper....

I think all of the statements were wrong, hopefully enough interest is being credited!

Strange thing is that today I received an email from Natwest welcoming me to my new esaver account, strange because this is the first time I have ever received an email from them and at first I thought it was one of the usual phishing emails!
  • Yep,just checked and i got an email dated 1/11 when i opened the account a week or so before,i'm already a nat west customer so i applied on my online banking account.

Also, strange the account is not listed here unless i've missed it.

    Edit: i can't post links,but it's a link to 'savings-previous rates'.

PS:Still unable to get to the bank personally to see what they say, whether i've 100% got it or not.
  • Just received a statement from them this morning which seemed strange because I always bank online and ticked not to receive a paper statements.

It quotes an Esaver bonus interest on the account and on the next page states the interest rate on this account for saving of £1-£999,999 to be 1.81 gross and 1.45 net, so even though I opened this when the rate was 2.85% it looks like I am only getting 1.81, feel well and truly duped by them.

That actually means you are getting 2.85% believe it or not. Their comical and pathetic explanation of why they just show an AER of 1.81%, with no further explanation on the statement, quoted from a letter they sent me after I complained was
I understand that you have recently received a statement for the E-Savings which only advises of the bonus rate; the reason being is that the 1.00% is variable and subject to change, this may have altered between printing and receiving of your statement.

Brilliant! By that logic, people with purely variable rate savings accounts should always be told theri interest rate is 0%!

It's like Groundhog Day with this one. After all the confusion last time hoped things would be better by now. Opened e-saver on 26th October (letter confirmation) but could not fund until 2nd November due to not being sent account details. Finally got activation code to find it says account opened 2nd November.

Then sent end of October statement £0.00 with confusing interest rates as others have received. Phoned Natwest twice to clarify interest rate I'm receiving before moving more money in and given different reply each time.

Also quite surprised to receive email today giving my unique number. Doesn't seem the most secure thing to do.

These guys are spectacular. What a shambles.

I sent them a letter explaining the discrepancy between the rate advertised when i applied and the rate on the info posted to me and asking for clarification, at the same time as I sent my id documents. When they sent my id back, they sent my letter back as well! No reply, just my own letter posted back.
