    Oh blast! I'd been holding off applying until November as I don't actually need the account until mid December. C'est la vie.
    Apply on line today - you should still get it if its in force when you apply. Stick a quid in 'til you need it.

    Thanks, that thought had occurred to me. I'd imagine an online application made right now would be deemed to have been made on the next working day though.

  • I received the application form today after applying on Friday but not sure if I trust them honoring the bonus

    Yup - the 1.85 bonus has sailed. Conversed with the online 'live person' the offer closed from 17:00 (must confess I didn't see that one coming).

    Was thinking of joining the Post Office 2.90 - will have to read up as I know full protection is not here. According to MSE, the next best package is the AA at 2.80, worth a poke with a stick until the next big thing....
  • Ah :( may as well bin my application form now!
  • Phew - Ok, not exactly a life or death issue but my confirmation letter arrived today with my sort code & acc number.
    Since I don't use cheques, I have had to wait for this so I could transfer in a quid from my current-acc, I'll work under the assumption my application is in time for the bonus rate, nice one. :)

    Tbh it's only for very small-scale saving for the 12 months or so going by my back of a beer-mat style projections spreadsheet;
    maybe 50-150 a month until I clear my personal loan this December, then I'll be able to up it a bit, but still small beans.

    Since my savings so far have really just been a mechanism to get cash out of my current-acc, in a form whereby I can easily see what I need to run on, & what is surplus, and how this related to my overdraft (if any), I have been perfectly happy to use a basic HSBC instant access ISA.

    But now the figures are starting to earn interest no longer measured in multiple-decimal points of a pence (say that drunk :p), I'd be daft not to at least punt around for better rates, and even though I do not bank with Nat-West personally (I deal with them regularly through work though) this was what I'd planned to go with until next April or so..

  • what a waste of time that application turned out to be, just sent a letter to close the account.

    After about 3 weeks I eventually had everything I needed to login only to then find out I needed a card reader to setup a payee and a natwest current account to actually transfer money out to my own own bank account (just lucky I checked before transferring money in) Customer service says most people have their savings and bank account toegther!! What a dinosaur.
  • I expect you could just telephone-bank to withdraw money. I suspect the reason you can't just withdraw because most savings accounts in my experience don't allow direct withdrawal online, you have to tx to your current account and then out. I might be wrong of course :)
