How about a maths set? you know the sort, with set square etc.
I found that when my kids were younger, things like biros, pencils etc for school were always useful.
For Harry Potter freaks - Home Bargains and the like, have, mini magic kits for 99p each - just a bit of fun!!
We have always had - what we term as cr*p sacks for Christmas - but they are seen as fun items with a few useful bits thrown in (my bingo dabber from two years ago - still makes me laugh .............and I'm still using it!!)
Novelty items like Coke in glass bottle rather a can - or little mini fizz cans from asda at 5 for a quid will cover several kids if you have them.
Shower gels and bubble baths are good (and useful) and loads of places have 3 for 2 offers on them. Personally I love Christmas for bathroom goodies as I can have get a good few months worth from the family and not buy any for ages!!
If your kids have any hobbies - then see what you can get that relates to their hobby - I spy books etc

Have fun!! I think it is more fun looking for goodies like this than the main Xmas shop which we limit to one pressy each.

HMV have a 70% off sale you might find some good DVDs for a few pounds. Also what about some new swim shorts, Debenhams were selling some Speedos at 70% in their clearance section. Cheap MP3 player (Tescos had some about £10 earlier in the year) - great for travelling. Hair gels and body sprays, flip flops - look in Surf shops for end of summer bargains.

I have bought some swish looking Cindy Crawford shower gel from TJHughes - £1, and some Boots Natural collection bits and pieces, all also under £1 for my Mum, Step-Mum, and sisters. Also a 'gow your own chives' kit (terracotta pot and seeds) from the garden centre for an awesome 64p!

We don't buy 'chocolatey' breakfast cereals, but DS really wants us too!
I'm going to buy a couple of the individual sized boxes for his stocking, then he can have a treaty breakfast Christmas morning.
