Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

do you want pratical or fun things?know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I'm a great fan of pratical things in Xmas stockings as they still inspire the same excitement but at least they aren't wasted or ignored in the excitement of the real presents later, here is what is going in my 1 year old sons (home knitted) stocking :
Apple (he likes gnawaing on them unlike oranges, and it takes up a nice bit of room!) A mango or other exotic bit of fruit is also nice for a older child or adult.
Mr Men's Mr Christmas book (£2.50 but I used W H Smiths points)
Slippers (£2 Primark)
Socks (£1 Primark)
Home made gingerbread men
Penguin backpack (free gift with book)
Bob the Builder toy (£4 Wilkos, they have £1 off all their Bob range at the mo)
Toothbrush & toothpaste
I know this would have to be considerably enhanced for an older child but in the past I have done things like
pencils (ones with names go down well & are pratical at school)
colouring books
note pads
novelty soaps
novelty bubble baths
novelty face flannels/sponges (can you see a bit of a theme developing here?!)
Towel with name/initals embroidered on
Deodorant (Kids don't need it but like using it! And it's a good habit to get them in I guess!)
Special cutlery
Underwear
Packets of batteries with the promise that they would be needed later
Childs dictionary (yes, it was well received! My Godson was 7 at the time!)
Bag of cape goseberries (!) or bunch or grapes unwrapped in the top so child has something vaguely healthy which is still a treat to munch on whilst playing with stocking waiting for dawn!
HTH;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
Hi Pavlovs Dog and anyone else with some insperation

any help would be appreciated0 -
shiny pennies,bananas and mandarins.
The elves want the kids to stay healthy and know hey will likely be eating junk, that's why they put fruit in the stocking, which gets opened first.
Nice bit of breakfast too when everythings so busy, dum and mad are only half awake, and it's a long time to breakfast when it's 2:03 am on Christmas morning:rolleyes:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

From what I can remember of our stockings :
- An apple
- An orange/tangie
- Bag of chocolate coins (always at the bottom of the stocking
)
- colouring book
- Crayons
- Small toy
- Hair bobbles etc.
- Mum always put a chocolate Santa
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
:xmastree: I loooooooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee Christmas!!!!!
Some great ideas...I always find it really easy to fill my daughters stockings with bits and bobs, but find it a big struggle for my sons.
I did surprise them all a few years back....(some might say a bit mean but I wanted them to remember what christmas was all about).
I have four children between 19 and 14 and didnt put anything in their stocking last year apart from a card from oxfam.
I'd brought them 10 chickens each
They did look twice....and once they read all about where the money had gone to..they were all really delighted.
On christmas day when we had phone calls from relatives and they asked what she had received it was the first thing she said....it was quite strange hearing her say that she'd received 10 chickens for christmas :rotfl:

how about a disposable camera so he can capture memories of the day?
as already mentioned, toiletries and stationary are always useful
seeds for an unusual plant, like a cactus or venus fly trap?
will post more later!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
