Anyone trying to lose weight for their wedding?

Hi Everyone,
Can someone give me some advice please... trying to lose weight for the July/August 2012 wedding. Which is fine, but i do need to shift some 4stone in my opinion (less if you ask OH - bless him).
I am wondering how far in advance I need to be sorting out my dress? i.e. how long do I really have to lose weight.
Also i assume that you can get a dress and have it altered, but guess if you lose a lot after buying the dress it may not look how you would like it to. That didn't make much sense, but what I mean is what suits your body will change as you lose weight.
Any help please - need something to focus/motivate me.
I think you need to allow about 6 months if you're ordering a dress, probably less if you were having it altered and had booked your alteration in. So you have over a year before you need to do anything and that's a good bit of time to lose some and see what style would look good on you. My friend recently chose her dress in November for an April wedding, and I saw Linda at the weekend for my wedding which is October 2011 - she says I should be looking around April for measuring so that gives me 6 months which I'm happy with...just be easier if it didn't have Christmas in the middle of it though :rotfl:0 -
Congratulations everyone on your weight loss and keep up the good work.
I think i'm going to try and join you in the toning up and weight loss.
My main problem is I eat rubbish and am never motivated to go to the gym, when I do, i'm there sweating away and everyone else looks like they're in a magazine. (And their on the machines longer and faster / higher than me). So I don't go again for weeks.
But i'm going to keep reading through this for motivation when I don't want to go again, there are other people like me.
I'm totally in the same boat as you. I've joined my work gym which is in my office building. The gym is well located in that it's opposite the door as I go into the building so looks at me crossly if I don't go but it's also got windows on the door so anyone coming into or leaving the building can see. Unfortunately, I'm not a pretty gym bunny. Any kind of cardio and I go bright red - kind of like a beetroot with legs. The guys who use it are mostly the attractive, properly fit boys so it's all a bit embarrassing when I'm puffing away on the treadmill and they've been on for hours at 100mph or something. And I've found that people just can't resist commenting on it when I go into the office. Still, I managed 3 times last week and twice this week so far.
Sadly I discovered that the corner shop near work sell the best vegetable samosas ever so I've undone all my hard work by munching on one of those and then a bar of chocolate for pudding. No willpower.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
For the unpretty gym bunnies (and I'm one too!) I think that we should have some kind of mantra, 'I'm doing this to feel amazing on my Big Day... anyone who mocks me is simply jealous of my motivation!'. I have a few friends and colleagues who make comments about me going to the gym but who's the one trying to better themselves?! I don't think there's anything to be embarrassed about, you're trying and everyone should be impressed by that! I wish I could run at 100kph on the treadmill... but my bum wobbles and it hurts! :rotfl: I just watch episodes on my favourite TV shows on my phone and block everyone out whilst I plod along at 5.5kph!
I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow morning... I really hope I've lost a bit more, although I doubt it as my friend popped round with chocolate cake last night and she makes the most amazing cake so I couldn't turn it down!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Ok, well I've managed to lose the half inch from my waist so my dress should fit, but still want to tone a little more so I have room to eat dinner or if I wake up fat which I inevitably will. I also need to tone my arms more so my bingo wings aren't flapping through the ceremony.
Just done a major effort in the gym, all to burn off a poxy extra 15 calories.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Hey, hows everyone going with trying to lose weight, I hope better than me!? I fell off the wagon completely at Christmas and after all the stress eating due to being made redundant I am not happy with myself! So.....I am bucking up my ideas and pulling my socks up and have decided to take on the cambridge diet - wish me luck!!!0

BanburyBride, I'm sorry to hear you got made redundant. Don't beat yourself up about falling off the wagon - I think a lot of people did over Christmas (me included) and to be honest you had more reason than most with the inevitable added stress.
Good luck with your new plan - I have no idea what the Cambridge diet is, I hope it's healthy and not a crash diet though...

Thanks White_Sapphire - I am now working again which is fabulous and a huge relief although my commute is 80 miles each way so spending alot of time in the car!
The cambridge diet - I guess some people would call it a crash diet, it is meal replacement (same as lighter life) but I have talked it over with my doctor who has signed the form giving me permission. It is convienient for me as leaving the ohuse at 6am and getting home at 7.30/8pm I dont have alot of time so having a meal replacement is a god send!!0 -
Oh banbury bride don't worry. Everyone fell off the wagon at Christmas. I've totally undone all my work in three gym and haven't been able to get back into it because of a sore back and chest infection.
If your doctor has approved the diet then its ok and I can see how convenient meal replacements are.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
I can completely understand the appeal of meal replacement plans, epecially in the run up to your wedding, and I would probably do the same in the same situation. Only thing I'd say is have a plan in place for your eating habits when you stop the diet, otherwise the weight will go back on again very quickly plus a bit extra!

I fell off the wagon completely over Christmas, and ended up putting on about a stone  but started Slimming World again last Tuesday and lost 6lbs in my first week, hopefully I'll continue going in this direction! Been back to the gym and restarting zumba classes tonight too.
Banbury - good luck with the meal replacements, it sounds like the right option for you given your working restrictions.Getting married 12/11/2011
