Road tax is it a joke? Where can I complain.

OP, I understand your frustration. Sometimes it seems like there are a million obstacles put in your way when you try to do the "right thing" when it comes to tax, insurance etc. It's almost a fight to get folk to take your money. It's little wonder there are so many people who don't bother trying.0

You may find that having no tax would therefore inavlidate your insurance , check the small print. If you bought the tax online , it wouldnt matter if the disk hadnt turned up as all DVLA and Traffic wardens should check the database and it should come back as taxed . Do a del boy an d put a tax in post sigh up .
However I agree with Custody , a bit of forward planning would be advisable. If you buy the car from a dealer Id make sure they gave you a years tax , bartering with people never hurt anyone.ONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -

Hi Dizzy,
Just to clarify, having no tax would never invalidate insurance, whether it says so in the policy or not. Same goes for MOT.
I have never seen a road tax clause in an insurance policy. And although you sometimes see an MOT clause the ombudsman has made a ruling that such clauses are unfair and cannot be relied upon by an insurer to withdraw cover.0 -
My Post Office is open on Sunday's. The banks and PO. at Merry Hill, Dudley used to be open Sundays also.
As for paying for 25 days unused, Why not collect the car on Friday & get an extra month out of it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

One thing you do need to tax at the post office is the original "Certificate of Insurance", not a copy. This can cause a problem if you buy an untaxed car. When you buy insurance you may have to wait several days for the documents to come in the post. A couple of years ago I was told by the Post Office that they would not issue a Tax disc as we did not have the original insurance certificate which was coming in the post. Their "solution" to this was that we should buy a Post Office insurance policy!0

Or a cover note, which admittedly is a rare thing these days.
Or buy their Post office policy and cancel it within 14 days0
