Road tax is it a joke? Where can I complain.

I dont think theres any points for no tax
however is it not the case they can now impound the car? or is that just insurance?
DVLA can impound for no tax, Police can't. Police impound for Driving without licence or insurance.I agree they whole tax system should be redesigned
i still wish they did a monthly option
im wary of adding it to fuel as its a pandoras box to hae even more scope for fuel duty rises (and i dont even do a lot of miles)
Fairest way AFAIAC is to take an average annual mileage (12K ?) divide by an average fuel consumption 40mpg ? take an average VED band C - D ? and work out an average increase per litre I worked it out previously to be about 10p per litre. There are a lot of averages in there and obvioulsy will be a lot of winners and losers. But AFAIAC the losers will be incentivised to get cleaner cars.0 -

I entered my reg number into DVLA and it gave me (along with other rubbish about Co2 and year of first reg and how much my tax will be)
"Date of Liability 01 12 2010" what does that refer to?
Where did you buy it from? EDIT: OK I see, Ask him when the Auction was? as they will have surrendered the tax disc probably shortly before the auction.
That means that the car is CURRENTLY registered with the DVLA as having tax.
If you ask the previous owner when did they apply for a refund on the tax disc it means you may be able to drive almost legally for September, if they applied for a refund before Sept 1st you can't drive it, if they applied after Sept 1st you can drive it. But you still commit "failing to display" which is only a small fine - about £60 - and you are unlikely to be given a ticket but you should avoid parking on the highway always park off road if possible and avoid parking in High Streets etc.0 -
Have you checked all your local post offices? I realise this is no immediate help to you but there is one in my local Waitrose that is open on a Sunday. Whilst most do close there are some open. Try checking the major supermarkets, you never know?Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000

Can I take this as fact that the car is indeed taxed?? and my only crime would be failure to display?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

In an ideal world you could take it as that, but in the real world you have to be sure exactly when the last tax disc was surrendered for a refund. If you can't be sure then you are running a risk of there actually being no tax for the September month.
This is what I would do.....
I would drive the car as it is, and park it off road at every opportunity avoiding parking in built up areas (because of failure to display). On the computer the car is registered as being taxed so it won't attract any attention from police, whilst being driven
On the night of 30th Sept I would send a SORN declaration using V890 to DVLA saying it has been off road since the day you bought it, dated the day you bought it. This will sort out any discrepency for the tax status for the month of September.
On FRIDAY 1st October I would buy a new tax disc to start October 1st from a post office which immediately cancels the SORN you sent the night before. And makes you 100% legal.
The above does involve some risk of small fines, but I would do it.
If you don't want those risks or don't think it is worth the hassle then tax it tomorrow.0 -

to the best of my knowledge none of the supermarket PO's do road tax0 -
Carry with you your insurance, MOT, ID and reciept from the dealer to say ypou bought it on Saturday.
If you do get stopped then you can demonstrate that you have just bought it, have it insured etc, but due to the Post Office closing Sunday (Apart from the one in Sainsburys, Leek) you cant tax it til Monday.
PS dont you think you left it a bit late to be buyong a car if you needed it for Monday?
PPS Complaining to anyone will get you no where, so its best to erm, get over it0 -
It sounds like the previous owner hasn't sent in his old tax disc yet, which is why you're getting that message.
If your car is currently off the road, can you work out how much it is for a month's tax on the vehicle, then work out how much it will cost you to take alternative transport until the 1st October.
Decide which is cheaper and use that method.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
