I make magic modelling dough with the children. It is white and air drying so you can mix in glitter or sequins.
Mix 2 cups of salt, 2/3 cup of water in a pan and heat through, stirring continuously for 3 to 4 mins. Remove from the heat and quickly mix in 1 cup cornflour and another 1/2 cup of cold water. Stir it quickly to a stiff consistency (return it to the heat if necessary). Knead in glitter if you want to when it has cooled.
Use it like playdough by rolling it out, cutting shapes and making a hole at one end to thread a string through. Leave it to dry in a warm place for a couple of days. It can also be used to mould around containers to make bell shapes.
NB: TAKE CARE WITH SENSITIVE SKIN AS THE SALT CAN STING

You could make some sort of snowman out of cottonwool,i dont know how but the thaught was there

My kids made these at playgroup. They covered an upside down plastic (disposable kind) cup with cotton wool, cotton wool ball for a head, felt shapes for nose, eyes, buttons, etc. My daughters one was then glued to a piece of card which was covered in polystyrene packing beads.

What about making angels out of card? There is a thing about itin the free tesco mag this month.

from dd's playgroup days (but very effective) lollipop sticks stuck into triangle then 2 stuck together to make a star & painted gold. Also they cut shapes out of bread, left them to dry out and then painted them and dipped them in glitter - strange but it worked!
shapes out of cardboard - bell covered in glitter & stocking covered in glitter with cotton wool for the top.
Also from later years - cut unwanted cd's/cd roms into small pieces and glue shiney side up onto a cardboard star in a mosaic fashion - looks really good.
pine cones good especially if you add wiggly eyes, cardboard beak and a couple of feathers

Paper chains - remeber making them for hours and hours at school.
Pom poms - either in christmassy colours or made into robins
Crackers - made from toilet roll and shiny paper
Bows - I made mine from that paper ribbon from a florist and used those plastic tags from sandwich bags to tie them round the middle and fasten them to the tree
Paper snowflakes - either doilies (sp?) or ones made from cut folded paper

Got me thinking now... we used to make wreaths from the round tv ariels and plastic bags!!!

Salt dough - nice and easy to make - bake and paint - as an old styler you'll prob have all the ingredients already.

Will post a salt dough receipe tomorrow if you need one.

Is salt dough the same as troll35's magic modelling dough?? If not would appreciate the recipe...thanks icon7.gif

What about those horrible (sorry if anybody has one!!!) doll things that sit on top of your loo rolls. Like half a barbie with knitted skirt bit. Shove a bit of tin foil on her back and not only have you doubled its value but you have your fairy. Or... for comedy purposes why not just put an empty Fairy washing up liquid bottle up there!!!

Sensible(ish) idea though now... what about using shredded paper as that lambretta stuff. Sorry can't remeber what it is called I'm sure it is something like that... hopefully you know what I'm talking about!

Ermmm...is it called 'lametta' or summat, or maybe 'angel hair'??? Wonder if putting tinfoil through a strip-cut shredder would work?

Think you are right with Lametta!!! Would tin foil not just scrunch up!!! Maybe that shiny paper like on club biscuits might be better... or maybe just scrap that idea completely!
