I cut it and took lots of it indoors

draped it round the fireplace and it looked lovely like a big garland

    lit the fire

  • Nature walks, absolutely :) Ivy is good, we always drape some over pictures and put teeny fairy lights in it. Pine and conifer bits smell nice on the fire, too.
And after Christmas, go to the shops and buy your cheap cheap cheap decorations for next year!

I bought some sweet decorations at a Christmas Fair at the weekend..............
A walnut sprayed gold with a red felt Santa hat stuck on to it and then some wadding stuck around the bottom of the hat. To finish it off, a gold thread was looped at the top of the hat so you can hang it from your Christmas tree. Simple but effective ;)

Just been informed that I am going to be in charge of decorating a 'floor to ceiling' Chrissie Tree on a miniscule budget. Does anyone have any ideas on really cheap things to make? Will be aiming for a 'completely-over-the-top' look rather than anything posh or designery.

Any ideas would be very helpful as I got stuck after the 'spraying pinecones gold and silver' stage!

    TIA

*Sorry for mentioning the 'C' word in Nov* :o

  • Muller light pots make lovely bells - drill a hoe in the top to thread a loop of gold cord through. Then either spray them gold or silver, or wrap them in tin foil - add glitter for extra effect.

Use holographic or shiny paper cut into strips to make paper chains - much cheaper that packet ones.

Use oddments of giftwrap to wrap up small boxes or cartons as miniature presents and tie up with curling ribbon.

Make a salt dough using equal quantities of flour and salt, add a splash of cooking oil and enough water to make a stiff dough. Roll out to 1/2 an inch thick and cut out stars and other christmas shapes. Make a small hole near the top for hanging thread to go through. Dry in a low oven or Aga for a couple of hours. Spray gold or decorate with acrylics and glitter.

    HTH - and have fun

  • Gather up the free cds and paint them with PVA glue on the silver side then cover with sequins etc then glue two together with a loop of ribbon to use to hang on the tree or wherever icon7.gif

If you've got/can find some cheap ribbon, make lots of bows. Red, gold and silver work best to give a Christmas look.

Also ask friends/relatives if they've got old decorations they no longer use, if they are looking a bit old, use spray paint to liven up.

String popcorn together to make 'ropes' to wrap around the tree.

Buy some felt squares and cut out shapes to make holly, santa claus etc.
