Mobility query can other family members HAVE the car

No its not a scam there are some people who abuse it and that is being looked at
In all walks of life people abuse the system even MP's are at it
DLA high rate can pay for a mobility car whether you have one or not, the mobility scheme is run by a charity with no other financial funding from tax payer. The cars are leased not owned so the vehicles get favourable discount from car manufacturers due to there huge buying power. They are then sold later after 3 years
I drive my own car paid for by me, I get free road tax as I take my daughter who is disabled to uni. That suits me and her but may not suit others, just because the system is abused it shouldn't stop the rules should be tightened and anyone who sees abuse report it.As this thread is sooooo old not much point but the whole scheme is a scam and should be scrapped! For £49 + Petrol a week I could happly run a car with no problems at all! The scheme should only be there to help people who need adaptations to cars an to help cover that cost! There are loads of council estates full on new Zafiras and Nissan Qashqai'a all with disabled tax and badges being clambed under grannys name it is a disgrase and a joke!0 -
"'the benefit of' includes use of the car by a relative to go to and from his or her place of employment if going to work 'benefits the recipient of the DLA award'. "
could you please provide a link to where you found this please?
i have my own car paid for outright but as i am in reciept of higher rate DLA i get the tax disc free , without it my life would be impossible and i have often wondered if my wife could use the car on occasion to go to and from work as her working is for my benefit as much as hers, it would seem silly if she couldn't as we cannot afford two cars and its only once a month or so she uses it anyway , thanks0 -

There isn't, as far as I can see any mention of this.
I checked it out myself with Motability.
The car is used by, or for the benefit of, the disabled person. This does not mean that the disabled person needs to be in the car for every journey. In practice, this means other named drivers in the household can use the car for shopping and other routine activities, as long as the disabled customer will benefit
A close family member or carer can use the car provided there is some identifiable benefit to the DLA holder & the driver retaining possession of the vehicle making it easier to commute between addresses will suffice. A spouse or partner can use it to travel to their place of work because the income earned benefits the DLA recipient. The recipient does not, as is often thought, have to be in attendance whilst the vehicle is in use.
Go onto the Motability web site & ask. They are very helpful.0 -
Thanks for that, the paste at the bottom of your reply is what i was after anyway , i suppose they have to find a way of wording it so that people dont take the urine out of the system but it is still usefull to have0

This is utterly ludicrous!! ANY person, disabled or not, benefit from their partner working and bringing home more income. How is that a benefit specifically related to a disability?
However much I am a 100% behind equality and respect for people suffering from disabilities, I really have an issue with reverse discrimination and that is a perfect exemple of practice.0 -

As may be, but it is all in the wording. 'For the benefit of the disabled person who has the award'.
Using the car to go to and from work to earn money that is 'of benefit to the disabled person' is quite a legit reason.
You may not like it, but without the car, no work, no money, no benefit.
Whether that was intended to be the case when it was set up I don't know. But like all benefits, the regulations are open to interpretation - hence why we have case law - it sets legal precedence.0
