My latest is " I dont deal with people who call my house"0

If people knock at my door I tell them the home owner isn't here (sort of true as i have a mortgage so the "owner" is the BS. Works every timeFind out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Its simple.
When they ask if they are speaking with Mr ____ You say
" I am very sorry they are away on holiday and I am house sitting" They go away fairly sharpish then:DNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
never ever give your number out on a website. even when comparing car insure i use fake numbers.
i usually grill the caller and get them flustered.
"oh Mr Beckett, I am calling from X, we have 4 people who want to buy your car"
"how do they know it is for sale
" saw it on autotrader"
" and precisley why are they approaching you, a car advertising scammer to purchase the car?"0 -
My Dad, in his 80's,
gets bored now and then, if he gets a call from a double glazing salesperson, he listens, then says "yes, I'm interested."
He asks if they would put up scaffolding, (usually they agree),
"Well, I'm on the 14th floor, so that'll be OK for you then".
(he isn't, but it amuses him).
Then he hangs up and turns the 'phone off for an hour.
Beware of older people, they got more time than you have to think of new wind-ups.

Would you tolerate some jerk forcing his way through your front door into your living room? Of course not, you'd forcibly eject him, and quite right too.
So why say that telephone cold callers should be treated 'nicely'? They're no different, pushing their way into your personal space, forcing you to do their bidding by picking up the phone and listening to them.
It cuts both ways - if they think they can behave like that, then they are fair game for anything their victim can throw at them."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
If there is a 'previously established link' with the company, then they can 'reasonably assume' your interest. However, once you have informed them that they must not call again, that's different. From googling, it does appear that BT think they are exempt from the TPS if you are a customer. It would be interesting to get some clarification on this ."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
To illustrate how vile these people can be ...
I received a call the other day asking to speak to Mr X.
Mr X had previously had my telephone number at an entirely different address before it was reassigned to me.
I have since received numerous calls from the same company asking for Mr X. The company concerned was one of these sleazy 'we will clear your debts' operations.
Finally, in frustration I told them that Mr X was dead. They had no idea who I was, I could have been his son. They simply said 'oh' and then tried to sell me the product.
I'm afraid I was a little rude."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
I have been getting hammered with t/calls from abroad from people wanting to know about my life. The callers said they were from "Lifestyle" and it was simply a yes/no answer session. Totally bored with hanging up all the time I kept him on the line for about 15 minutes by interviewing him about Bali ( that where he said he was calling from) so now thinking of going there on holiday !
My next plan was to tell them their call was important to us and leave the phone next to my ipod docking station.
Strange, they have never called back again.0
