    Hi
Just looked on the Argos clearance web site and noticed, so please be careful that the acer aspire 5735Z refurbished, that i bought new about 18mths ago has a lot higher spec than the ones advertised. I would have thought same make and serial number same computer, so maybe the refurb to a lower spec enables them to sell for a lower price.

Having said that mine is a great computer i am very happy with it and have not had any problems, i was a little wary when i bought it Acer being a new name to me, i had always had Toshiba's before, lot more expensive and this time offering a lower spec for a lot more money.

Good luck hope it helps Anna x

    It doesn't. :rotfl:

They are simply different configurations, nothing at all with being refurbished.

If you purchase from the DELL website, you can customise your order. Same short model number, but with different components.

So you have to look at the long model numbers.

    For instance, a Samsung R519:
    Long model number: NP-R519-JA01UK
(Processor: Pentium Dual Core T4300 2.1GHz
    Memory: 3GB
    HD Capacity: 250GB
    Display: 15.6"
    Graphics Card: Intel GMA X4500M
    Optical Drive: DVD-SM
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
    )

    another a NP-R519-JA08UK
(Intel Celeron Dual Core Processor T3100 (1.9GHz)

    2GB Memory

    250GB Hard drive

    15.6" widescreen display (1366 x 768)

    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium...)

There can be many variations available to a single model number.

    PS
Not sure so please check, but i think Acer is HP

Come on now. It's enough. :D
  • Most of my desktops have come from PC WORLD website as "REFURBISHED" all seem to be discontinued models at about half price and only prob i've ever had was caused by damage in transit, promptly sorted by them. I'm not a great fan of DSL but they've been great in this area to me. Can't comment on laptops but should be similar I think.

No Acer bailed out Packard Bell from NEC.:j
  • Argos are not a recognised computer supplier be careful their customer service is UMMMM. Having said that I'm recommending DSL!!!! EVEN BIGGER HMMMM amazing how ones own experiences vary!!
  • Claire8606 As the other guy said. How old is it. Take it to an independant expert and ask for free estimate because there is no logical reason why you can't recharge it that can't be fixed fairly cheaply.!! If you are happy with it that is.
  • its nearly 3 years old. the laptop is a HP 530 with windows vista. ive been looking on ebay for the same laptop thats cheapish then i can use my hardrive, dvd and charger. but they are atleast £50 so not sure if its worth the money.

    What do you think??
  • It might be worth checking the warranty on the HP, some models actually came with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty but this was not passed on to the customer who thought it only had a year.
    You can check here,
    http://www11.itrc.hp.com/service/ewarranty/warrantyResults.do?admit=109447626+1285569313879+28353475

The battery not charging is a common fault with the HP's, Hp will say update the BIOS that does sometimes work, but i usually find they need a new mainboard fitting.

Refurbs can be a good buy, but it all depends on were the refurbs are coming from. We buy direct from Acer who refurb them them self and some are just like new and it's hard to tell it's a refurb but then you get some that look like they have been round the block a couple of times and well used.
We did sell a lot of HP refurbs and they were as good as a new laptop with very little use on them, but it's rare now when we get them in.
  • I bought an acer refurb laptop from the argos ebay site mentioned earlier in January and I was delighted with it. It came packaged as new and I could see nothing wrong at all with it. The best part was it was about £100 cheaper than anywhere else! I'm probably tempting fate but I've had no problems at all with it and would definitely go that route again if I needed another one.

Buy from the PC World group and your service contract is with the TechGuys. Buy from Argos and it remains with the manufacturer.

I've never had a problem with Argos customer service. Have you? Perhaps you can give us an example?
Whereas I'm sure with the other retailer complaints are legion.

Argos not a recognised computer supplier? What nonsense.
