    Part of the Furniture
Only had to get a few bits today (ran out of milk and yoghurt for my little boy and a few other bits!). Spent £2.28 in Aldi and £6.38 in Asda which was slightly more than I meant to but I had to get a few treats in for the weekend of TV watching!

Well, the first of the month and my first spend......

£40.53 at L$dl on basically nothing! Bread, bit of chicken, a few veg, thats it really.

I really don't know how I'm gonna manage this challenge - I really want to do well but it's just so daunting!!

We've all felt how you have - and often still do to be honest, especially towards the end of the month ;) - but you've already changed the way you think about money and food by joining in the challenge....and that's half the battle - getting the right mind set.

You have already noticed that you have spent what you consider to be too much money for too few groceries, whereas before, you would probably have spent £40.53 and thought nothing of it - I know I used to, before I was made redundant, and money wasn't an issue.....not that I've ever been remotely well off, but you know what I mean.

But now, you're not happy that £45 has only bought you x amount of groceries, so you've definitely made a start :)

It's all about changing your approach to how you spend your money, and it's not easy, but it can be done, and it's very rewarding when it all falls into place. You'll find a routine that works for you, and then you'll be away. You'll also find endless support from the great bunch of people who take part in the challenge, so don't be disheartened :)

No one supermarket deserves all of your grocery money though, so if you have the time, shop around, and you'll start to find bargains.

And remember, Rome wasn't built in a day :)

Spent £60 on the weekly shop at Mr S and am a bit disappointed tbh. I think that is almost as low as we personally can go. Ok, so I could cut more off by cooking every single thing from scratch and baking treats etc but me and OH both work long hours and quite frankly I can't be bothered lol.

£60 a week is so much better than we were doing before we started this challenge, so I might just be happy with my level and be thankful for how much money we've saved just by getting to where we're at now!

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I couldn't have - and didn't - cook everything from scratch all the time when I worked because I was on my feet all day and was totally shattered when I got in, so certainly don't give yourself a hard time over that!

My budget is £275 because it has to be since losing my job. There are still things I could cut back on even further if I have to, but I will be miserable if it comes to that. I may eventually have no choice, but for now, I don't want to make myself miserable by trying to cut down to an unreasonable (for me) budget, that would only be achievable if we ate cardboard :rotfl: ......ok, slight exaggeration, but you catch my drift ;)

We've all got a level of what is an isn't acceptable to us, and it sounds to me like you've reached yours

If you've saved any money at all doing this challenge, then personally, I'd say that's a success :T

Can you put me down for £200 again for this month this is for myself, OH, 2 hollow legged children, a giant breed puppy (10 months),parrot, budgie, tropical and cold water fish and includes all cleaning, household, toiletries and pet accessories.
We are minus a bunny rabbit as my 9 yr old 'lady girl' sadly passed away this week. The children are devastated but I refuse to get another as last year myself and my partner agreed that no pets would be replaced apart from the dog so trying very hard to stick to that.

  • Oh dear, not off to a great start. Managed to spend £6.12 on nowt!

Got milk this morning which was fine apart from the fact brain didn't kick into gear until after the shop! I was pleased that 4 pinters were down to £1 and got a blue. But then for the green, I still got a 2 pinter for 75p instead of getting 4 pints of that as well. Doh!

Then this evening I had to grab something for my mum from the shop and ended up buying bits I didn't need :-s I didn't spend much so not a huge deal, but mostly stuff I didn't need at all.

Oh well, day 2 tomorrow. Am aiming for a NSD :)
