Put the skirt to soak in some warm water. The glue will soften and go white. If you then rub the affected areas with a little washing up liquid and a sponge/cloth you should find that the glue comes out.

It's a water based glue, so soaking it in water would be a good idea, if it's on thick it might take several soakings and rubbings.

  • Hi,

I had to reply as I had this problem only last week and was asking other parents and even the teacher how to get the glue out. My daughters uniform was covered in the stuff. See below:

Pick off as much PVA as you can.
Soak in cold water (overnight if poss) - warm water will set the glue
Rub in soap flakes (ie woolite) and or washing up liquid
Get as much out with nailbrush/old toothbrush
    Put through the wash

I also had a stain remover from Home and Bargains (glo care for tar/wax/paint/wax polish and this worked a treat). I did the soap flakes/washing up liquid, rinsed, then used the stain remover as well).

Her uniform has no glue on at all now.

Next time it happens - soak in cold water asap and then handwash it out.

    Hope above helps
  • Hi

Im a childminder and am always covered in pva glue!

soak clothes in cold water over night then wash as normal.......you don't need to do any more than that....works every time :)
  • I just want to thank everyone on this thread on your tips. I got glue on my black dress and the washing machine did not get it out. I spent about 1.5 hours using nail polish remover, q-tips, and toothbrush to get the stain out. I didnt want to soak my dress in the remover because i wasn't sure about it removing colour. Most of the glue is now out and i hand washed the area of the fabric again with woolite. It doesnt seem like it's losing colour, but if it does i will update.
