Just pledge here how many AF (non drinking) days you aim to have in February and Shaggy will add you to the list. Pen runs weekly challenges to fit all size so just "put your hand up" here when next one starts to say that you want to be added.

Sounds easy as Iam writing it -- but we will see later when 9 comes along and the vodka is calling from the cupboard xx

You mean you can wait until 9 o'clock before having a drink:eek: I think a few early nights would soon clock up some more AF days for you.

    You do mean 9 p.m??;)

Welcome julie. Just post on here (ideally in red and bold) the number of days in February you hope to be alcohol free for February and the lovely Shaggy will add you to the list. We also have optional weekday challenges to keep us motivated (Monday to Thursday) but Pen will be along to explain those.

Went out last night and was not AF 4 drinks 3 small measure glasses of wine and a pint of beer. Good job I left when I did otherwise I would have had a dreadful hangover otherwise. As it is and the lack of drinking it knocked me out a bit, left me feeling a bit rough this morning and dreading a hangover.

Will be AF for the rest of the month so should get my little saintly bowl soon!

Target for Feb is 28 please Shaggy and thanks for the scores on the doors missus and the morning pictures

Not AF last night and I can't be arsed to do much today as a result. I hate wasting my days off like this.

Julie, 26 af days in Jan looks fab to me.

I really want to cut the drinking right back now, so I'm going to start the weekly challenges on a Sunday () - but as usual I don't mind how many nights you want to pledge for until the Friday. I'll start it off tomorrow some time.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday and that there is plenty of lovely AF'ness about :)
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

    Afternoon all!!

    27 for me please Shaggy!

Can't remember the last time I had such a high total!:D Am enjoying being AF but must admit to a few cravings.:( Am sure they will wane as time goes on. Its certainly helping the diet too as I would normally exercise like a demon to earn calories for wine! Now I still exercise but I can eat instead!!:D

Had a lovely morning. Dropped OH at the kids club at the cinema and me and Mum had a Mooch round John Lewis At Home. My word, I love that shop!!! Got some lovely pretty lights on a cord, led with crystals etc. Very pretty but not entirely sure where I'm going to put them! Might have to do a Nigella and have them round my kitchen cupboards!!:D

Hope everyone is having good saturdays!!

(P.s classic from Piglet today....got on scales to weigh myself and OH tried talking to me. Piglet told him to "Shh...mummy's just weighing her feet!":D)

  • I've not read all this thread yet but can I join the thread please? I'm not ready to join in the challenge yet though. Quick background to why I'm here: My OH is on medication and needs regular liver checks. This time he got an elevated reading and the doc says it could be either the meds or overdoing it with the alcohol over the festive period.

OH decided that he would cut back on the alcohol and then gave me the "you drink way more than I do so if my liver is being affected then what about yours?" lecture, which got me thinking. On a good day I was drinking 4 cans of Scrumpy, on a bad day I'd also top that up with a few beers or a few glasses of homemade wine. Shame I can't tell you how much that would be on a really bad day though.

When he told me he was cutting back I suddenly realised that I no longer felt in control of the amount that I was drinking and knew that I would be lying if I said I would cut back too, it had to be all or nothing with me. I realised that I honestly couldn't imagine a day NOT drinking and that made me feel really, really sick.

I decided on Thursday night that I had to prove it to myself that I could survive one whole day AF. I told my OH what I was planning and also reassured him that if he wanted to carry on drinking then that's up to him, I can only control my own actions. I also told a real life friend who has been AF for 3 years now, knowing if I told at least a couple of people it would give me extra motivation.

So here I am. I survived my first AF day for more years than I care to remember yesterday. I can't believe how thirsty I was and drank lots and lots of water. I managed to have a decent sleep last night, which was something that had been worrying me. I'd love to say I never thought about having a drink at all but I'd be lying ;) I've got a few bottles of homemade wine and a bottle of sloe vodka in the kitchen and more than once I thought about cheating and just having a sneaky sip but realised the only person I'd be cheating was myself and it's not like I'd be able to forget that I cheated.

When I woke up today I felt no better than I usually do although the skin under my eyes looks LOADS better :eek: The bottom of my back aches a little, which is probably my body getting rid of some toxins I guess? Since yesterday never killed me, I'm aiming for another AF day. I'm not saying I'll never drink again of course but for the moment I'm happy to take it one day at a time.

Phew hope that saga didn't send you to sleep :D

Welcome kinkyjinks. I am sure others will be here soon giving their support and advice.

My experience is that stock the house with lovely AF drinks. Something that is a bit luxury to you and you can feel it is a treat for you. My favourites was ginger ale, shloer, ginger and lemon grass or elderflower cordials with sparkling water. Also you might want to stock up with sugary things as alcohol has loads of sugar and you might want to get it from other source. Now is not time to think about diet, the sugar cravings will ease off. My favourite was Th0rnt0n's caramel shortbread. Sheer luxury so ticked all the boxes for me. Find yours.

And what ever you do keep hydrated and keep posting here. We all have different stories some have drank more than others and some find cutting down or stopping more difficult than others but we all have come to conculsion that the relationship we have with alcohol is not a healthy one and came here for support to do something about it. There are no failures as many have said, one AF day is better than none.
