Bad IPL Laser treatment - Beautology Bristol

Hi all
I'm looking for some advice and/or shared experience.
A friend of mine went to a company called Beautology which I believe have two outlets in Bristol. They undertake various cosmetic treatments, one of which is something called IPL which involves the use of a laser to do something to hair follicles which stops hairs growing - my friend wanted this treatment on her legs.
She undertook what is called a 'patch test' and agreed to pay in advance for six treatments for which she received a 50% discount - the total she paid on her credit card was £480. A few days later she had her first treatment which she found extremely uncomfortable and was in pain when she returned home - her shins and legs had been badly burnt in a number of places.
Beautology offered little in the way of assessment, help or advice and when she informed them verbally and in writing that she wanted a refund they would only offer something like half of her £480 or the equivalent in vouchers. Three months later and her legs still had visible burn marks - obviously a very upsetting and worrying thing
We have tried a number of options to get a refund and this is a very shortened version of the whole sorry process (Beautology do not like responding to any forms of communication).
Does anyone have any similar experiences and does anyone have any consumer advice on how to proceed?
Many thanks.

Has she seen her GP?Gone ... or have I?0

Yes - the GP felt that the burns would heal with time but to initially be careful when sunbathing and wear high factor sun cream.0

OP do not PM details to the poster claiming to be beautology. As they are not registered as a business(as per rules) you do not have any evidence they are who they say they are. They could be Scooby doo for all purposes or just someone scamming for peoples personal information'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

I registered as a bar steward, and have proof as I serve at the Dog and Duck. Time Gentlemen Please.
There, yous see I am authorised by my signature to say that, beautology could be anyone.0 -

As for anything that touches or damages the skin, I would not touch with a pregnent eel on the end of a barge pole. Interesting the side effects though.
Use Freddie's Lesson No 16, Verse 3. If my chest was meant to be bare, I would not have a blanket of rough hair on it.0 -
Was it not painful when she was actually having the treatment? I have had IPL and the nurse kept checking that it wasn't hurting as she went and gave me cool packs to put on the skin when she finished. If it was hurting as she was having it, then they should have been able to adjust the strength of the laser.0

Post deleted as it contained advice to OP to ignore imposters advice0

Hi
Beautology has asked us to post a short statement on its behalf. As the question will have been answered, I'll leave the thread closed.
“Please ask your friend to contact Beautology Reception and I will conduct a full investigation.
Due to the nature of Laser Hair Removal, an occasional reaction to the treatment is normal, which is why we always conduct patch tests if a client hasn't attended for treatment for a while.
Our Refund Policy, has written in accordance with the Trading Standards Association and takes into account any successful treatments which have already been taken and any group purchase discount (as you pointed out, your friend received a 50% discount for purchasing 6 treatments). Which, I'm sure you will agreed is only fair.”Could you do with a Money Makeover?
