a friend of mine got married at Port Lympe Safari Park in Kent!

her god daugher read a poem, we all sang the Carpenters "On Top of the World" and his mum read a passage. It was the same length of time as the church weddings I've been to. And between the ceremony and the reception we all got to go round the safari park

Well I received a phonecall from the vicar of the church I wanted to get married in last night and he said that he does not marry people who live outside his parish. Unfortunately I am JUST outside it. He also said that there wasn't a church in this town which would marry me as far as he knew. So today I will contact my local church (horrible modern brick building, looks more like a council office) and see what they say.

Is there really any point in contacting your local church? If you think its horrible then your not going to be happy getting married there. Is your partner really set on having a religous wedding? Couldnt you get a vicar to marry you somewhere else (assuming they would do that) that was as beautiful as the church you like. I know you said there was nowhere in your town but were not getting married in the town we live in. Were going to a lovely hotel about 20 miles away. Heres the link to it http://www.paramount-hotels.co.uk/hotels/scotland/paramount-stirling-highland-hotel/gallery/# We totally fell in love with it when we saw it. I could just see you getting married somewhere like that in your gorgeous gothic dress! You could make the service as long as you wished by adding your own touches to it. Personally I cant wait to get mine over and done with so the shorter the better!!

The church is truly hideous, but I can't see the outside of the RO to judge in comparison.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

The outside of the church really isnt that attractive, but inside is much better and just imagine how it would look with decorations, flowers etc. Hard to tell what the registry office is like from that wee pic but it looks quite nice too. Go and have a look round them both and see how you feel. You will know as soon as you walk in if thats where you want or not.

The RO is an older building than that church and looks cleaner and better kept. Theres also a funny smell in the church that you have to have experienced to describe. Kind of like fart, plastecine and surgical spirit mixed up.

Sounds like you've made up your mind - personally, I'd go for the RO if it's a decent place.

Have you a local methodist, baptist or URC church? They often have more relaxed views on marrying divorcees so they might fit the bill.

I know that church and although I don't go there I can tell you that I know some really lovely people that do. They work very hard for their community and very pointedly not just for the members of their congregation. I also know fantastic people at London Road Baptist Church and Gunton Baptist church. I don't think that a church is about bricks and mortar - it is about the welcome feeling that you get from the people there.

If you want somewhere beautiful like someone before said - what about Somerleyton Hall? Absolutely stunning!

Please don't think that I am being funny with the comments above it is just that the nicest people I know are from the two churches that I mentioned and the one that you mentioned. They are fantstic people because of their beliefs and the way that they choose to live their lives based on their beliefs, not because of how their church looks.

Oops- that read like they are the only nice churches in Lowestoft! I'm sure that the other churches have fantastic members/congregations/followers/supporters (not sure what the correct word is)- it just happens that I have had a lot of contact with the three I mentioned through my work and have met some truly inspiring people!
