Desire Ordered - What to do when arrives?

Don't think that upgrade will invalidate warranty, as Jon 01 said that o2 are releasing the update - at some point!
My point was that if the OP got an o2 Desire then to get Froyo immediately they would have to root it thereby screwing up the guarantee, not that a Froyo update in itself invalidates anything.0 -
APP BRAIN a must have for installing and managing your app downloads its better than Android Market .
Quick Settings to control your wifi data GPS Bluetooth etc . Its an easy way to switch off what you dont use and save the battery .

I cannot understand that, how can an update from O2 invalidate the guarantee? I understand you say that having to root it wil do that but surely you would not have to do that?
What does root it mean by the way!0 -

The update from O2 won't. It was a misunderstanding, don't worry.
Rooting give you root access to the firmware on the phone.
If you use Windows sometimes you sometimes have to run things as Administrator.
On Android HTC don't give you that kind of access to the system. Rooting give you that access so you can do more and access the system at the root level.
Without rooting you can't flash the handset with a new rom (Unless it's an offical upgrade of course, that's handled in a different way)...0 -
with o2 you can get the official leaked o2 froyo RUU, putting it on the phone wont invalidate your warrenty.
Just search for it on XDA or androidforums, you need to make a goldcard, which is easy, then just run the exe file from your computer with your phone plugged in.0 -
Whatsapp is pretty much one of the best apps out there...like Blackberry messenger but insteam of Blackberry-Blackberry...It's Blackberry-iPhone-Android Phone- Nokia, Great app!0

Sure is.
Head over to xda-developers forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=594) where you'll find custom roms and info on how to apply them.
BUT you should be aware that if you root and flash the phone you'll blow your guarantee with O2 and HTC.
Can you not restore the phone back to o2?0 -
If it still boots, then yes if you can find the O2 stock rom.
If it won't, then you have a problem. They may not notice, I don't know how closely they look. But I guess that if a certain class of error can be caused by an improper flash or root attempted they may look more closely?
Its not something that I'd do to a £400 device unless I really had to. There's not that much branding on O2 handsets any way, and as 2.2 will be along in a few weeks any way.
It's your phone and your choice to make.0 -

HTC Desire, T-Mobile.
From the error, either it's not compatible with the Desire yet, or T are blocking it for some reason.0
