Finally ordered the HTC Desire. Decided not to go for HD as it is bigger and didn't want any bigger than Desire, would of gone for Legend if could of got it on a better deal, but i got it on a good deal.

Would like some thoughts on where to get started with it, any must have apps, any fun & funny apps etc etc.

Specifically will i need to update to Android 2.2, has anyone updated yet?

Thanks in advance

The updated will depend on if you've ordered a network branded handset or an unbranded.

Have you ordered direct from a network or through a dealer ?

Talking tom cat can be great for kids
    Angry birds beta
    3G watchdog
    Google goggle
    Google earth
    Google sky maps
    eBaY app
    Layar
    Picsay
    Air control
    Sand blaster
    doodle jump
Gangstar West coast hustle (GTA vice city style game, only online, not on the market)
    Monkey kick
Astro file manager (with astro bluetooth add on)
    Advanced app manager

    Back by no demand whatsoever.
  • Talking tom cat isn't too bad for adults, either. My wife showed it to her friends in the pub the other day and they were in stitches. Of course, as the laughter got louder the "cat" started copying it and that just made them worse and they had the pub in uproar. :D

O2 say the 2.2 upgrade will be out by the end of this month. But they've postponed once already, so I wouldn't hold your breath. . .

    Sure is.

Head over to xda-developers forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=594) where you'll find custom roms and info on how to apply them.

BUT you should be aware that if you root and flash the phone you'll blow your guarantee with O2 and HTC.

As above and with a brand new phone (in some sort of contract I assume) I would not be wanting to burger about with it too much.

Froyo is good but not worth invalidating any guarantee for.

Being a miserable sort I don't like to spend money on Apps so my fav freebies are

    Audio Manager
    Backgrounds
    BBC News
    3G Data Usage
    Bing Droid
    ColorNote
    Dictionary.com
    hotukdeals droid
    RingTone
    Sky+
    Yell.com

Don't think that upgrade will invalidate warranty, as Jon 01 said that o2 are releasing the update - at some point!
