It would seem the airlines are taking advantage, my son needs to travel back to Gibralter on Thursday just checked BA , fly Thursday £650, fly Sunday £48 , rediculous but I suppose there is a rush for Thurs/Fri tickets... needlesstosay he decided to stay a few extra days... and he is only flying 'over' Spain..

Hi, Hope there´s someone out there who can help!

Mr TB and myself were enjoying the sunshine in the Canaries until we heard about the strike on 29th which is, of course, the day we fly home. Can anyone give me any idea of the appropriate way to go about getting home in the event of an air traffic strike. Our flights are with Monarch (there´s nothing at all on their site) and we have travel insurance. I don´t mind if our baggage follows us later and we fly with only hand luggage, but Mr TB is presently getting himself into a major tizz about whether we should try and get a flight home a day earlier. I´d like to stay a day longer but apparently he has been parted from his laptop for too long already ......

    Any ideas gratefully received

I would imagine there will be lots of people trying to fly before or after the strike and no doubt Monarch will hike their prices as BA are.. on the website it asks that customers due to fly on 29th keep monitoring their site for updates.. good luck

i´m out on spain at the moment although coming back tomorrow.

From what i can make out pretty much everything will be effected in one way or another. Air traffic control, baggage handlers, bus drivers, any government offices etc etc.

If you are due to fly i´d attend the airport in plenty of time and be prepared for a long wait!

Hi I am flying at the sam time to Ibiza when I spoke to Thompson they said they are not going to put out statements till it is confirmed? I said I thought it was confirmed about the strike and other airlines have put notices on their site.. she was quite stroppy and said "as i have said we have nothing to say till it is confirmed!!!" so will have to wait til wednesday and see I think

The problem I have is that I'm travelling down to gatwick on the 28th and staying overnight in a hotel. I'm right up the creek if thomson dont decide till the 29th that we can only take hand luggage with us, as what would I do with my suitcase for a week while in Ibiza?
My hand luggage bag is tiny and wouldn't fit enough clothes in it for the week either;)

Ryanair and Easyjet are offering the chance to book alternative flights, looking at Thomsons flight schedule that means we have to reschedule to the friday if Thomson offer us the same:eek:

I will be hounding them tomorrow for an answer to this and I bet the phone will be on hold for ages as they'll be inundated with calls because they cant do the decent thing and put a notification up on their website or contact the passengers directly, its not like they dont have our email addresses is it?

i think out of good customer service they should at least put something on the website even if it is just to say they are waiting for clarity etc.. they must know people will be worried and by the tone of the women who answered the phone to me they must have had lots of calls so far.. If we turn up with our cases and they say hand bags only would they send them on later? or would we need to collect after the holiday?? I have no idea about this stuff.. good luck for wednesday sounds like we are going to need it . if you hear any thing will u put on here thanks

I've had a go at packing into my hand baggage bag tonight and was surprised at how much stuff I can fit in there, although I went overweight with it by 1kg, which I'm sure would lead to other problems on Wednesday.

Sending our suitcases on a day later would be fine with me, if they allow that we shall see......

I will certainly post here Carol as soon as I find out any info, if you would do me the pleasure in doing the same?:D

Out of interest are you flying from Gatwick?

Hi I am flying from manchester, still nothing from thompson so they must be just waiting for the 29th to see what they do... will have a go at packing tonight with hand luggage ..think we will have a long wait in the airport and I will make sure when i get on the plane have lots of layers, drinks & snacks just in case I am sat on that for few hours without moving.. oh the joys of travel lol

Thats what I was planing last night lol wearing extra layers as when its on me they cant refuse it lol

Still waiting my end to for some info on whats happening, which I think personally is bad making us wait this close to our flights to let us know:(

At least easyjet and ryanair passengers are given the alternative to change to earlier or later flights, us thomsonites are being kept well an truly in the dark:(

Surely they must be able to make a decision today;)
  • Just rang Thomson to be greeted by a message saying

"we are experiencing a very high number of calls atm and it may take up to 20mins for your call to be answered" Oh I wonder why that is?:D

I tell you with this un-needed stress I am so looking forward to that beach and a huge Vodka lemon on ice:D I'll be on PDB by bora bora if you fancy joining me an my friends:beer:
