I went to a wedding recently and a few of the balloons, em - how to word, lost their height meaning they were just sort of moving around the floor. The string that was tied to them kept getting in everyone's way.

The balloons for this were weighted with a little box on the floor between the tables. There was candles on the table so I guess this was the best place for them to go.

Unfortunately this is what tends to happen when people decide to save a bit of cash and do the balloons themselves. They inflate them to an incorrect size, far too far in advance, use the wrong ribbons or even just poor quality balloons and they simply sink.

Heh, unfortunately 36 hours is a drastic overestimate, an 11" qualatex latex balloon will float for up to 18 hours, I used to specify 12 to a customer, as that's the length of time they look perfect.

Whilst "home done" balloons can end up looking like a kids birthday party, there's nothing more attractive than professionally done balloons. They can be themed to any occasion, any colour scheme, and can comprise far more than a few balloons on a table.
Might I suggest you take a look at https://www.qualatex.com or https://www.balloonhq.com/photos/db/index?CCHK=1 for some better images.
As for cost, having professional balloons done can cost far less than having flowers, and provides a real WOW factor for your event.

Just been to a ladies night this weekend - flowering pot plants were used as part of the table decorations which were then given away to deserving ladies!

Decorative glasses (crystal type or maybe gold pattern) filled with candle sand - hey presto pretty candles (well at least they were at our wedding lol)

Well it all went very well

I had three gold/cream balloons per table with a vase of Autumnal coloured gerbera/foliage/gold wirey things. Petals were scattered on the table with some gold confetti. DD 1 and 2 who are silver service trained folded the napkins in a fan shape and I had some menu and place cards printed with an art deco lady on the front.

The top table had a swag of ivy along it as well.
Food was delish, disco was good and the dance floor was full.

The ladies had pashminas in gold gift bags (5 for £1) and I made a favour bag for each place setting filled with sugared almonds bought from a local sweet factory.

I now have a house full of the flowers that I brough home
