Dont know if this has been posted but at a recent wedding i went to the centre table decorations were clear vases full of kiddies sweets - flumps, flying saucers etc. Tied to these were balloons
I thought these were really fun and not seen it anywhere before. Depends on if u want to go posh or have a bit of fun with it i suppose but probably quite inexpensive as you can get big pots of flumps and flying saucers from the supermarkets at this time of year - halloween favours, christmas etc, and the vases I know you can get for £1-2 from various cheap shops and supermarketsRe-embracing the Money Saving Way of Life after a little lapse!0 -
aurora_borealis wrote:How do you make fortune cookies?
Found the recipe below in one of our cookery books - not tried it, but might be worth a go if you are wanting to try to make them...
Chinese Fortune Cookies (makes about 18-20)
100g plain flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
3 large egg whites
100g icing sugar, sifted
115g unsalted butter, melted
a 6cm biscuit cutter or glass
3-4 baking sheets, greased and lightly floured
Sift the flour and ginger into a small bowl. Put the egg whites into a large bowl and whisk until just frothy. Add the icing sugar and melted butter and whisk until the mixture is smooth.
Beat in the flour and ginger mixture until the mixture forms a smooth paste, then set aside to rest for 15-20 minutes.
Using a biscuit cutter or the top of a glass, gently mark 6 circles about 6cm in diameter on each baking sheet. Working on one sheet at a time, put a heaped teaspoon of the mixture in the cente of each circle. Smooth with a flat knife to fill each circle.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees C (350 degrees F) Gas 4 for 6-7 minutes or until the edges start to brown. Remove the sheet from the oven and carefully and quickly slide each cookie onto a flat surface. Put a message in the centre of each cookie and fold the cookie in half, then fold the two points together - the dough is very pliable while hot.
Continue baking and filling each cookie as they are ready - unless you have lots of helpers you can only work on one sheet at a time, or the cookies will dry out before they can be folded.
Cool on a wire rack until completely dry. If packing in boxes to give as a gift, wrap in tissue paper first, so they won't break.
The rest of your plans sound lovely, too - hope it all works well for you!
