princess - I emailed my skype recordings to the assessor email address too so if it's not right, at least there are two of us that have done it!

I finally got a few surveys completed - well, four :)

Started at 11am and finished at 2 but that was on-and-off (15 mins here and there as I have two toddlers at home, and couldn't be out of the room for too long at a time).

Feel a bit better knowing there ARE people willing to take surveys!

That is the beauty of working for Optimum Contact. You can take a break to take care of the kids but they really do need to be old enough where you can leave them playing for the duration of a survey or young enough so they are asleep in a cot!

If you have a child monitor you could perhaps have it in the room with you but with the volume turned down a bit, just so you can monitor any emergency situation.
  • Paul -

Thank You for all your helpful info on here regarding Optimum Contact work.

I'm going to apply for the surveys work too.

Having been on ill health related benefits, I'm keen to get back to work of some kind asap.

Could you tell me, if it pays enough to look upon it as a full time income?

    Many Thanks,

    Sim.

Paul - no offence but I really do not need advice from a stranger on a forum, about childcare.

I work from home in two other jobs as well as this one, so I do know how to take care of the children - they are in the room next to me playing while I do one survey, then I check on them and go back again 10 minutes or so later, and so on.

And I DO have a baby monitor, so please don't patronise me.

I was on Incapacity Benefit for 13 years before signing up with Optimum Contact. I immediately went self-employed and consider telephone survey work my full-time work.

You may be able, of course, to top up your earnings with Tax Credits:

I am certainly better off than I was when on long term Incapacity Benefit.

He was only trying to be helpful?
Or is there something I'm missing?

Yes possibly, but no one starts a job unless they've sorted out things like childcare etc.
  • Sorry, I have a few questions!!
Does anyone know if the landline phone package with Orange is any good for the 0845 numbers? I was told theyw ere included but just wondered if there is some really low limit?
Also, do you use a seperate headset or something with Skype? and we are considering moving to France (DH is French!) and I wondered if I could still use Skype to make calls free to the 0845 number from there?
    Any help appreciated, thanks.

I was wondering about the headset thing for skype too. It said it is easier to make calls as you don't use your regular phone. Need to investigate further once I get the kids to school.

With skype, you don't need to call the 0845 number, but download the pamela thing which records the calls for you.
