  • Doing the trial won't cost anything:

"The trial assignment does not require you to make a call. As part of the trial assignment, you are provided with a link which already has a recording attached to it. You are simply required to listen to the recording and complete the scorecard based on that recording."

Sorry Clairibel - didn't mean to be attacking - or defensive.

I realise that earlier in the thread it was said that Skype is no good but the details of Skype and the recording system Pamela were given to me by the company themselves who seem to think Skype is acceptable.

Personally I have no interest in this if it involves changing my phone package to TalkTalk (who don't have a good reputation anyway) but the Skype and Pamela combination does not have a high start up cost so looks like a good option to me.

I have no idea why they use an 0845 number but it certainly makes it all more complicated.

Apologies if my previous post sounded terse - it wasn't meant that way.

It's fine no worries, i was not necessarily aiming that comment at you but seems others are defensive by saying i haven't read things etc and others have been nothing but helpful :)

I just like to know facts before i jump in as i have been stung before from work at home opps as I have not been told the full facts initially and by then i've shelled out for stuff and its ends up costing me :(

    Claribel....

As mentioned earlier in the thread, Plusnet (which is part of BT) do offer free 0845 calls with their unlimited package. If you are not happy to use TalkTalk I would suggest talking to Plusnet to see if their package would suit your needs.

EDIT: It appears PlusNet is NOT suitable for this work
  • I use Skype and on the manual you get when you're accepted to work for OC, it does say about some operators using Skype, and gives details of downloading it and Pamela - the recording program.

Skype cost me £4-something for a monthly subscription which will be billed again (the same amount) in mid-Oct, and I downloaded the free trial of Pamela Pro for 30 days to see if it's worth my while - if I actually get any surveys completed, then I'll download the full version for $19.99.

You can have multiple Skype accounts to get around the 50-calls limit, as each account - I think - would have 50 free calls available to you.

I've only been working for OC for 2 days....but so far haven't completed one survey - tried at different times (1pm-2pm, 4pm-4.30pm and 10am-11am today) and so far either get them going to answerphone, asking for a call back another time - or in the case of today, a lot of dentists appointments! :rotfl:

I will try again around 7pm tonight to see if I get any joy then - but then again, I haven't been calling any mobile numbers yet as they are charged for on Skype, and tbh a lot of the 'daytime' numbers are mobiles. Well probably half are, but they all seem to be coming up for me! :)

I'd give it a go personally, as it will only cost you a fiver to try if you get the unlimited UK calls subscription on Skype, and as the current surveys are worth £2-£4 each you might make your money back fairly quickly, if you can work the times people are in and willing to answer surveys.

I still have doubts about how willing people are to answer surveys; I know I hang up straight away if I get what sounds like a 'marketing' call, and the scripts you get on OC sound very...well, scripted and 'salesy'!
  • I wonder if there would be a better conversion rate at the weekend?
  • AndreaE...

I think the information about the cost of the monthly Skype package is out of date. The current cost is £3.99 +VAT/month.

Last Saturday I worked for less than two hours and did four surveys
  • Paul Varjak - I was charged £4.59 by Skype yesterday for my monthly unlimited UK package, I only paid this yesterday so I know it is correct.

What time did you get those surveys completed (roughly) last Saturday? I thought weekends may be better for getting surveys completed as more people might be home...?

Almost all my earnings are by doing telephone surveys for Optimum Contact. I do not pretend to make a lot of money but earned just short of £150 in the first four days this week.

Last Saturday, my surveys were done at...

    10:32am
    11:06am
