Which "budget" venue have you booked/ been to a wedding at?

My daughter is getting married at the golf club her dad's a member of, it's costing £75 for the venue ( £150 for non members ), they arrange the registrar and the meal is £21.50 a head. The good thing about most golf courses is that there are some spectacular places to have photo's taken, http://www.duddingstongolfclub.co.uk/index.html

Looks very impressive!
Still trying to think of other places - went to one wedding where they had booked the local pub for the evening do - they had the service and wedding breakfast at a posh hotel and then had the evening do at a local pub. It kept the costs down and allowed them to have the photographs they wanted. There was no room charge if they had the wedding breakfast - for the ceremony either. The wedding breakfast was amazing and about £20 a head! It was over towards Newcastle but can't think of the place. They had a coach take people from the pub to the venue and back to the pub and charged them £5 per person or £15 for a family! It worked out a lot cheaper than having the evening do there as well - plus people did not have to find accommodation back home!0 -
I just want to say for people getting scared reading this thread that this isn't just a "budget" venue thread any more and don't worry... You don't have to pay £2k just to hire a venue

I'd have peed my pants reading this if I was just starting wedding planning thinking "hang on, these are 'budget' venues???"
Ours is a beautiful exclusive use venue, funky and modern and we're only paying a per head price for food and drink and £150 to have our ceremony there too.I love surprises!0 -

We are similar! There are some very nice cheap all in packages out there - but never that near to me! :mad:0 -

No decent sized or good quality hotels near here (only one within a couple of miles)......and it's a fair way for taxis to travel from the nearest town....I liked the Barcelo in Buxton but it worked out a little dear for what I could afford - the rooms were very grand, but the Hotel is a little tired.
We had our reception at the Barcelo in Blackpool, on their "All Wrapped Up" package, and some friends married at Barcelo Shrigley Hall near Macclesfield - that place is GORGEOUS!!!0 -
must agree with above about shrigley hall it is beautiful went to a wedding there and seemed pretty goodA big thank you to all those who post on the forum and make it a worthwhile place!!!:j0

I agree about Shrigley tis lovely! Foods a bit steep though
Has anyone eaten there? how was it? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
A friend was a bridesmaid at Shrigley, and thought whilst the venue was lovely - it was a rip off. You paid for alcohol on the table and then the venue took it off and put it behind the bar to charge people per glass in the evening
She had to run around with an uncle and put them to one side. Other issues such as expensive bedrooms put me off looking there further.I love surprises!0 -
thats a shocker Maggie
I have to say I know its very much "talked about" and Im sure its one of them venues where everyone knows someone who has been to wedding there. I know this is well bridezilla but I don't want to get married anywhere where we or any guests have been to a wedding before. ( ok I know thats psycho!!!! OH doesnt share this view I don't think)
In saying that I have only been to a couple up that way, one there is no chance of us being able to afford ( lovely) and a hotel one where even though it also was a classic venue for "round that area" the food was not good, and the guest rooms, very tired indeed. I know it cost the couple a fortune as well

That could potentially happen in any venue - we didn't have that problem as we drank the wine that was provided & bought more
Don't forget that guests can use Tesco deals to book their hotel...we did, double B&B for 2 nights cost us £42.50 in tesco vouchers, and I know some friends did the same for our wedding.0
