Which "budget" venue have you booked/ been to a wedding at?

we are Just on the drawing board at the moment and interested to see what venues you have booked/ viewed or been to a wedding at.

Have just been quoted 16k for a barn wedding and am rather overcome :o at the price ( not inc drinks etc) This is expensive, right? ( 100 guests)

Just noseying to see what others have been/seen/done and how much it costs...

Ideas please!

  • We have not taken our hotels wedding packing which was £3500 for 50 day and 100 night guests. We have had things priced individually and a lot of the things included in the package the hotel give us for free anyway. At the moment we have 56 adult guests and 15 children invited Our food bill is coming in around £1500 for wedding breakfast and evening buffet, corkage at around £350 for around 45 bottles of wine and champagne which we will provide ourselves and our DJ for the evening is £200. So that is just over £2000 we have spent no more than £1000 extra on clothing, decor, transport, photography, flowers, stationery, cake etc so we have still come in under the package price. I would tell everyone to look at both options before opting for a package deal.
  • We looked at a package deal but ended up putting ours together for less than a weekday package local to us! We have 40 people to the ceremony/ wedding breakfast - £180 for the room for the service, £25 per head for the 3 course carvery option, then an evening do for 100 with bacon and sausage butties. Our spends so far have been less than £4000 including everything - venue is about £2000 the rest is the registrar (£450!!!!!), photographer (£350) and then outfits, cake, flowers and everything else! It soon mounted up but we still got it cheaper than the package which we could only have 30 guests and no evening do! That worked out at £4500! You have to look around and work out what you are happy with!
  • we are having our reception in a barn its for hire to the community so is more like a village hall but has the character of a barn and there is a small bar area! its costing us £200 ish to hire for the day of the wedding the day before and the morning after to clear up!

Just be wary that not all "budget" deals are the cheapest. Go to any venue that takes your fancy and let them know what you require and what your budget is.

We were asked for over £3k for a barn, in a farm. Not inlcluding food or drinks - and you had to choose their caterers and still weren't allowed to bring your own alcohol in!!

Just remember your wedding, on top of the thousands you pay the venue, will make them more money. They get bedrooms taken up (if they're a hotel) - your pay them lots of money at the bar, and they get to cover all the overheads they'd have that weekend if you didn't book. If you're doing it short notice, on a different day to Saturday and very early in the year out of season then they are quite happy to have any business at all.

They have to decide - if I say no to this couple will I get a better offer from another bride if I wait? If the answer's no they'll do better business for you.

I'm getting married with a per head price based on minimum numbers. Works out a lot cheaper than another venue who had a "50 people for this..." thing - every additional person was £50, and the room hire cost to have the ceremony there was £500! That's where they sneak in their charges.
    I love surprises!
  • we have also booked the britannia deal £1500 all in
    3 course meal for 50
    7 item buffet for 100
and then bucks fizz and little extras.

in my area wewere looking at £3000+ for just that.
only thinmhad to pay is £100 for each night in bridal suite :(
