    It's oop North and it's http://www.heatonhousefarm.co.uk/

It's a barn on the outside and a marquee inside. And the price of £3k was a year or two ago.

Yes, I saw that one online maggie, what was it like inside? It is only a few miles away from my parents so liked the look of the location-im not sold tho on Marquess in general, dont think they are very "us"

    Also considering:

    Anywhere in the peaks
    Some of South manchester
    Anywhere in derbyshire
    Anywhere in london
Anywhere in essex as long as its not too far out
    Kent
    Hertfordshire but havent seen much
    Dorset ( OH from there)

My family and freinds South Manchester, some in the midlands, OHs family and freinds Bournemouth/ poole.

    Hi Lynz,

Not sure how high Kent is up on your list but after some research I found a lovely barn in the Aylesford Priory grounds (search for the priory then select the conferences tab and the details are on there). From what I remember the hire was £675 for all day with tables/chairs if you use theirs and it has underfloor heating. Only prob is you cant have the actual ceremony there (a barn which is absolutely bare about a mile down the road is charging £1,500 just for the building and nothing else ).

The priory also has gorgeous grounds for photos :D

Inside it was lovely - a real transformation. To be honest when you arrive it's a working farm, not a pretty farm then you walk through this very unimposing entrance ("Eh, is this it? In here?"). It's definitely not a traditional barn wedding venue with rustic beams and what not. The disco section was my favourite - lots of starlight - and the speakers facing into the dancefloor so the sound doesn't p*** off the whole room. It was a venue on Four Weddings acutally. Nice view of fields out the back but from memory there's no windows in the function room.

Frankly, the cost was just extortionate. The man who runs the venue kind of makes you think you must book him as your DJ, at extra cost, the bridal suites on site are just horrible, the caterers they recommend aren't cheap (no surprise when they know you're spending the cost of hire!), they wouldn't allow corkage. However they do allow a lot of decorative options. All extra, of course.

I liked the Barcelo in Buxton but it worked out a little dear for what I could afford - the rooms were very grand, but the Hotel is a little tired. I'm sending you a PM for another venue.

How many did you want to invite? When did you want to do it?

  • We're having a big country house not a barn so not sure my contribution is too valid but were paying just over 5k for 80 daytime guests and 130 evening daytime will get canapes and reception drink, 3 course meal with two glasses of wine coffee's after aswell as sparkling wine toast the hall has a marquee attactched and the recption will be held in there. The whole place is exclusive to us for our day which was a big selling point only down side was it offers no o/night accomodation

Like you I didn't want a marquee when I started looking but I fell head over heels in love with theirs

Agree with others though 16k is IMO way OTT xx

Looks great, where does one get hitched- is it mainly churches. I think this is why im not 100% overkeen on Kent - long way for many and although there are some good barns (this one is lovely!!) im not sure where the ceremony would take place. We like castles but many in kent have cannons and other war memoribilia around which I am particularly anti ( vehemently anti-war) yes I do know what castles were built for lol just dont like the reminder of bloodshed on a loved up day! :D
