Looks great, where does one get hitched- is it mainly churches. I think this is why im not 100% overkeen on Kent - long way for many and although there are some good barns (this one is lovely!!) im not sure where the ceremony would take place. We like castles but many in kent have cannons and other war memoribilia around which I am particularly anti ( vehemently anti-war) yes I do know what castles were built for lol just dont like the reminder of bloodshed on a loved up day! :D

I know what you mean, there are a lot of civil ceremony venues in Kent and quite a few relatively close to the priory but yes it is extra hassle. For the actual ceremony itself you can get ideas from here:

    http://www.akentishceremony.com/

That sites lists all the approved premises and the register offices.

    :)

  • We've just booked our barn venue! We're having it on a bank holiday Monday, which has saved us a fortune because they still charge the weekday wedding price on bank holidays (I nearly fainted with shock/happiness when they told us that!)

I'm guessing the area isn't really right for you (we're in Shropshire) but what I would say is when you're searching don't just look for barn venues - I had gotten to the point where I was ready to give up because every venue I liked was at least an hour away and ridiculously expensive. It didn't help either that we'd decided we didn't want a marquee/hotel/community hall... basically I had my heart set on a barn & nothing else! I came across our venue by making a list of every single licensed premises in our search area (5 A4 pages!) and slowly going through their websites one by one. Thankfully I only had to make it halfway down the first page before we found 'the one'. I'd already discounted it in general searches on wedding sites because the main photo was always of the 'grand' manor house on the property which wasn't what I was looking for - it wasn't until I actually read the website that I found they had converted barns which they used for weddings as well.

Just to give you a general idea of pricing - for a Friday/Saturday wedding they require you to hire the venue for 2 days, including 2 nights of accommodation as well (8 bedrooms sleeping 16) This is about £2500 for the hire & £1995 for the rooms. On Sundays & Thursday this drops down to one days hire & one nights accommodation - £1700 & £900 respectively. We've gone for the weekday rate which is roughly £800 and no need to hire out all the accommodation unless needed. That particular rate doesn't make the hire 'exclusive' but they have already told us that basically if there's a wedding on they won't hire out the other bedrooms anyway, especially if there's music going on, and even if they did we wouldn't mind because where the actual wedding is taking place is entirely seperate from the main house/bedrooms.

There are some photos I took here if you'd like to have a look: http://s204.photobucket.com/albums/bb268/Socialchemistry/venue/

Wow that is LUSH! that is the sort of thing Ive been looking at also :) I totally take your point about the "midweek" and i think this is definately something we are considering. Many venues though are not including friday as midweek anymore. And summer has now started to be including April :( !

  • We get married next month - it has worked out cheaper booking it then, plus we booked late so have forgone lots of the extra charges! They would rather have guaranteed income - it is a very busy venue though so we haven't saved as much as you would at other places!
