  • Doushka, I had a look back at your posts and I see you also have an Income Protection Policy payment. I would say that is where the discrepancy comes in.
Having said that, the OR is still not allowed to touch one penny of your IB or your DLA. It has to be removed from the income first. Then take off your outgoings.

If you do this, how much "disposable" income do you have?

I would argue the point with the OR re your DLA since it is neither taxable nor included in any calculations.
  • Hello,

Hoping to join the club (I do like a bit chocolate on my biscuit...)

Went BR in 04 purely due to living beyond my means, discharged early in 05 and proudly living on cash, with some to save and without running out each month!

Happy to tell my experiences to anyone who's thinking of, or in the process.

Has anyone any comments on how long it will be before I can gain a solo/electron or a debit card? Or if I should change banks (if I can - not sure I want to), still on a Nationwide cash card flex account which is cool but there are sometimes when I wish I could purchase on-line or over the phone etc.. tried on a couple of accasions to upgrade at Nationwide but turned down :(

    Cheers

    Alex
  • The latest on MBNA is that they are refusing to speak to my DMC or my IP re the IVA!!

They have both had my signature to allow them to talk to my creditors on my behalf - twice - by recorded delivery - but are saying that they have no authorisation to speak to anyone but me!

    This country has gone mad

You could have had a Co-op Cashminder account with a visa electron card as soon as you were made bankrupt!

There are other banks who do Basic Accounts for folks in IVA or bankruptcy. NatWest Step Account, Abbey and the Halifax all do one.

Also, there is the Cashplus card, which has a Mastercard number and works like a Mastercard but is a Plus Credit Card. You put money onto it and use it like a credit card, but without the credit.

    Hi Alex

We have a CashMaster account (Basic Bank Account) with the Clydesdale Bank (I believe the Yorkshire Bank is affiliated) and we where recently given a Maestro card with this account - note you are not allowed an overdraft and it definetely states it is not a Cheque guarantee card.

We declared BR (or Sequestration as we are in Scotland) in October last year and got our Maestro cards in June this year

  • Hi all Mrs Panic Knickers here again! i know you thought Id gone. Sorry.

Well off on the guilt ridden trip tomorrow (holiday! u all know the saga?) feel well sick
but one quick question before I go.
OH had letter today from natwest (we ve had a couple )but this one asks us to return the cashcards and cheque books (which I have already cut up) to them by 7 days or they will send someone to collect them at a cost of £125. so as we going away tomorrow do I send them back with letter explaining that in new year will be going BR or do I just ignore it ? I don't really want people coming round incase my mum is here when they turn up while we are away?

any advice as always gratefully recieved.

  • Hi,

Just want to start by saying a big that you to everyone that gave me some advice on my last posting.

I am planning on going bankrupt at the end of Jan (well putting the paperwork in) and its actually a great weight lifted from my shoulders - re: what to do about all of it.

I have read a great many of the posts already but I only have access to this site while at work and I was wondering if anyone would know of where to find a budget sheet that the OR's use when you go bankrupt? I think they differ from IVA / DMP as people (here) have said they also claim for holidays etc where an IVA etc does not allow you to have this.
    Thanks

I have just gone BR and the OR said he wouldn't allow anything for birthdays, Christmas or holidays.

The OR is being a pain in the you know where!

Bankruptcy allows for birthdays, Christmas and holidays. It allows you to have a normal life again, free from debt, etc.

I would query this with the OR, since it is one of the two big differences between an IVA and bankruptcy.

Well, it hasn't really affected me as we don't have to make any payments - mostly on benefits and my income is v low.
Still furious about the life insurance though.
