CCCS have advised that BR is the way to go, for me and OH. My head is spinning and I need to get a few things clear.
If we decide to do this should we stop payments to creditors now? Payments go by DD, mostly at start of the month. Should I tell them or just cancel the DDs at the bank? Would this tip off the bank that something is going on?
I am halfway through opening a new basic bank account, if I start proceedings should I tell the new bank?
Sorry for all the questions.
As long as you dont have debts with the bank that you...well bank with... then you should canx all DD's and save all the money you have,.... youll need it for after B day.
The bank wont bat an eyelid at you canx all your DD's... Do you have online banking... if so canx all online.0 -
Could I join and have a number please?0

Just a small tip for anyone who wants to shop online or use a "credit" facility. Myvesta introduce the Cashplus card which is a mastercard, is used like a mastercard - but there is no credit given. If you put £100 into the account, you have £100 to spend, etc. You can put money in via the post office, or via a retailer who uses the scheme. My retailer was a jeweller's shop where I live. It is brilliant! You can access your statement online and track what is going on. You can even have money paid in from wages, etc.
There is a £9.95 set-up fee and a £4.95 per month fee. Or you can pay £1 per transaction. Depends how much you are intending using it! There are no interest payments, since it is not credit.
It certainly gives you freedom back!0 -
I cancelled all of my DD at NatWest when I decided I was going to do an IVA and they did not even ask why!0

Went through an awful time before i actually decided to go ahead. Had helop and advice from CAB. The actual process was the easiest bit! In and out with the Judge and spoke to the official receiver on the telephone the next day. No income, no assets so straightforward really.- Tip - I changed bank acount before I applied as one of the CC debts was with my bank and the could have closed it.
- The only real downfall now is not being able to have a debit card. (Can't use Tesco online and get all those points!) Don't ever want any cc's again so that's not an issue.
- The up-side is being able to buy things with cash, before all the money went on paying off the cc there was barely enough to buy food lt alone anything else. That's the vicious cycle we were in. It has lifted a weight off my shoulders although if i think too much about it i do still feel guilty.
- For anyone going through it now, or about to, there's plenty of support here. It will get better:D
