Hi Ani - I'm just dropping in to say i haven't desserted you. Sorry to hear about the job situation atm, as miggy says, you know better than anyone what your possible options are. Well done for getting the WTC form sorted, at least that's one thing from the list ticked off.
I'm sorry i can't offer you a job and can only offer a virtual hug - but hopefully it's the thought that counts :grouphug:
btw, you put me right in the mood for a bacon buttie with your previous posts - I think the idea of sitting eating one enjoying the fresh sea air is glorious. Why is it food, esp food like that, tastes so much better eaten outdoors. My fav it hot chips with ketchup and salt eaten by the sea or somewhere where I've been outdoors for ages and really need a bite. Then they taste amazing.
HI kerri, :hello:
:rotfl: My favourite is haddock and chips, eaten in NEWSPAPER, in the great outdoors, but health and safety dictates we are not allowed to do this anymore. Instead we have to eat them from PLASTIC. Rain and thunder here - a few houses struck by lightenin too this morning
It was a full 15 degrees cooler here than yesterday according to my car temp.
Seems to have dried up now though, goodness knows what the weather will be doing tomorrow.
I'm amazed at the things modern cars have now, ( only experiencing them, whilst my car has been repaired).
No mod cons, for me, its a driving experience :rotfl:Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Sorry your son did'nt get out to play, Aesop x
' Oh, and someone told me not to let it get dark - not sure what to do about that one! '
You've lost me there, i'm not sure either, miggy :rotfl:
Well, i had a shower, went to bed, and promptly feel asleep, until i woke up at 6.30 pm, got up had a bite to eat, went back to bed, and fell asleep until 6.00am.
I've woken up, still feeling tired. Maybe its a virus, maybe its my body telling me to slow down, or maybe its just an age thing. I never thought it would happen to me, ( i guess everyone says this ), but for some years now, i get very tired in the afternoons, and could quite easily fall asleep at 2.00pm. I just don't normally have the opportunity. Lunchtime naps, huh?. Mind you, since i usually wake at 5.00 or 6.00am, even when i'm not working, maybe its not surprising.
All about pensions in the news again, today. Its something i've been considering myself, at the moment. Huh,' people can't maintain that level of work and stress, knowing their pension has been devalued and are having to work longer '. Welcome to the real world, teachers. This is the real world where many people already exist. Maybe public sector workers have have the ' cream ' for too long. A job for life, index linked pensions, etc, does'nt neccessarily mean they are more ' deserving ' . They have support from 50% of the general public, today, but this is'nt likely to increase, its likely to decrease, if strike action continues. In case you have'nt guessed, i'm not one of the 50%.
Maybe its because i'm a lone voice, when it comes to pensions. No one is going to take notice of one persons opinions. But its ironic, its something i've been giving considerable thought to, at the moment. Asking for advice amongst my colleagues at work, i'm shocked to find not one of them has their own pension, never gave it any thought. I've given it considerable thought, on and off, over the years. I've always been advised against taking a ' private pension ', but is'nt this what any self respecting, self employed person should do? Which, eventually, i did, way too late, though. So if there are any ' young people ' reading this, i would suggest it seriously is worth considering. The way things are going, its clear the government is encouraging people to make their own provisions for their retirement, as it becomes increasingly difficult to rely on the government, for any sort of assistance.
Unfortunately, i began my pension, way too late, but it would appear i was sold a reasonable pension, ( from some one i knew at the time ), even though i was dubious to say the least. I have'nt had the spare money to contribute into it for years, but i was allowed to keep it when i wenr br, so long as i did'nt contribute huge amounts of cash, into it, ( well thats a joke ). I've kept thinking i should really ring the pensions company, ( for years ), which i finaly did, a couple of weeks ago. I was shocked to learn i can withdraw from the fund, next year, ( which accounts to some extent, to my change in mood )which is now a huge moral dilema, for me. Its cheered me up no end, to see there is a smalll pinprick of light st the end of the tunnel, but i'm undecided on the best course of action. I could really use some good quality, unbiased, pensions advice, if there is anyone reading this, who really DOES know what they are talking about. Someone posted on the pensions board that if you are s/e you don't qualify for a state pension, or a reduced state pension, which i believe to be utter nonsense, otherwise why would i go to the trouble of ensuring my ni contributions in full? Everyone is entitled to full state pension, providing you have worked and paid said, contributions? You can't exclude the self employed from this, although obviously, you have to think of your own pension arrangements.
I'm going to get barred for this. Rant over.
As an aside, look at all these ' shop ' jobs being cut, in the news today, including hundreds at Thornt*ns. Just goes to show, people are'nt even buying chocolate, anymoreDebt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

I love the way people on MSE talk out of their bottoms.
Yes Self Employed people are still entitled to the same benefits as employed people, otherwise why are they made to pay tax and NI? Otherwise we would all be self employed, pay nothing and live the life of riley!
If you don't pay enough contributions, you may only receive a reduced state pension, but you will still get one.
Mind you, they did say years ago, by 2020, there will virtually nothing left of the state pension to claim. It was called the Demographic Timebomb. I wrote a wonderful paper on it! It is all about not enough people being of the age to leave school and go to work and to pay into the National Insurance scheme, hence securing our state pensions.
Another reason why not everybody should to go to University. If everyone upon leaving school went to Uni, we would have a huge gap of National Insurance contributions.
Ok, off my soap box and back to work ,have an audit this morning.0 -

I hope you're not refering to me, Aesop
Of course everyone is CURRENTLY entitled to the full state pension, providing the criteria has been met. Its true , there won't be any state pension, in years to come. Everyone will be responsible for their own provision of their pension. Whats happening at the moment, is one step closer to this.
Nor will you be entitiled to ' free ' travel, in your retirement. It won't be too long, in the face of things, before the bus pass is abolished. They have already tried, in the area where i lived.
I think most of the people at our uni's, ( oopps i should change that to, many ), would'nt be paying ni, anyway. Its called playing the gold card, i think. Scurries away.
Now THIS has me thinking, and it could turn into a whole political debate. Best not, eh?Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

Apparently The Times was the best wrapper...
Had fish and chips outdoors with three friends the other day - sitting on a bench in a pretty village before going on a walk. We got envious comments from joggers! (Ha! We got the calories but they got the waist lines.)

I think Ani has looked at every possible job situation in their area, and that means from strawberry picking to shelf stacking, but if it is anything like my area..... there is nothing out there. Or if there is, you get hundreds applying for 20 jobs.
They opened a new Wilkinsons in my area last year, it was in ALL the local papers and websites, the amount of people who applied for 60 jobs at the store..... they were queuing right around the block. More than 200 people applied for 60 jobs.
Kinda tells you what the job situation is like out there.
I sawthis in my local free paper today: Gardener wanted, for growing company.

Another early visit to bed. Its very depressing, the fact no work is coming through. I know its that time of the year when everyone is taking holidays, ( largely to exotic places ). theres got to be something wrong somewhere. Now if i knew it was going to be this quiet, and i had pots of money, too, then i could do the same.As it is - panic time. Or maybe unwind time. Don't go out, don't spend money, except on household bills. Got myself a free meal today, courtesy of someone elses newspaper, ( actualy, you can be really naughty and rifle through the bins, here ). What will the nighbours think? I don't care. Needs must. You have to do what you have to do, and use your head and resources. Still collecting roadkill, Aesop, except i found some coin from some obscure country, at the weekend :rotfl:
Whilst i was getting my free meal, i saw a notice in the chippy. Part time staff wanted. No qualms, i walked straight in. No time for being proud. Not exactly a career choice, but i need to earn money, even if its the national minimum. Anyway, who knows there might be perks to the job? I'm not sure i'm up to it, but how good am i at turning that smile on, and pretending everything is hunky dory? Can you start this weekend? Sure. Just waiting to see if the boss rings me now. I mentioned about being too old. They said age does'nt matter. Precisely.
Just seen another interesting titbit in those newspapers i have'nt had time to read. Only 1 in 7 have a company pension, but 90% of public sector enjoy gold - plated deals. Indeed they are. But thats a shocking statistic, the number of private sector workers with a company pension, has fallen to its lowest level since the fifties. Was'nt it ingrained into us, you needed a pension, even though my parents never had their own pensions, ( and look what happened to them ). my dad worked for the pru, at one stage, and was totaly against pensions. But surely its the way forwards nowadays, with the state of things, ( scuse pun ), the way they are. Maybe this is one of the money issues which should be raised in childrens education, nowadays? This is undoutably the governments aim.
It will be an ' interesting ' day tomorrow, to follow the news. As Katie whatever she is called, from the App, said, teachers spend their time telling the children the importance of attendance at school, yet?
Its ironic this has come at a time, when i've started to focus on my own pension entitlements, ( which are negligible, in comparison ).Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?
