Off to get the sticky

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 18th September 2010. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Congratulations to Falady (see post qouted below)
Loads to do here still, DS1 coming for lunch & I still have loads of apples to prep.
I managed to get all my washing dry outside yesterday, I bet I won't be saying that for much longer.
Hubby is still suffering with man flu!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Huge congratulations from me falady!! :j:j Hope you, OH and Katie are all doing well :D

I fell asleep at 9.30pm last night! I was truely knackered from walking round all day. Another busy day here, I'm off to Ikea today :D. It's in Cardiff so an hour's drive, I'm going with my friend so we will make a day off it and have lunch and do some other shopping. So I'll probably fall asleep early again tonight :rotfl:

OS wise - I've emptied DW, I need to tidy tonight, I want to put WM on but it looks very grey out so will check weather report.

    Have a great day all

    Up with the larks today!

Congratulations to Falady and welcome to baby Katie.

Am off out nofor the day, avoiding the masses of GNR before the roads get shut. It's pouring with rain here in Newcastle so will help the runners.

Had a protein shake for breakfast and will take the same for lunch so nothing to buy.

Hope everyone has a good day.
  • Good morning everyone  Raining here, so no gardening for me :( I'll get some sewing done instead :)

Leftover roast meat (from the freezer) with HM onion gravy, in big Yorkshires with lots of HG veg for tea. HG apple and bramble crumble

Right then, I've just done an experiment. I went to Morrison's and bought a value chicken and a free range chicken. Weighed them before and after cooking.

Before cooking, it works out at 6p per ounce for the value one, 10p per ounce for the free range one. After cooking, it works out at 9p per ounce for the value one, and 15.5p per ounce for the free range one.

Both chickens lost about the same amount of fluid whilst cooking.

I'm a bit disappointed TBH, I thought the value chooks were supposed to be pumped full of water?

    That's all I've done today :D

Did you do a blind tasting? I'd have volumteered if I'd known ;)

Morning hester, flutterby & everyone else

Congratulations, falady, really pleased that all's well with you all! :j I did pm you again, but suspected you were MIA cos of little bean's arrival. :kisses3: Do hope you get a couple of minutes to chat with us all!

Very wet here this morning - wish I'd gone to get some more blackberries yesterday, as they'll just about be done & I haven't nearly enough for jam, etc. Some elderberries left, though, so they might have to get added to brambles. Also need to get to the site I found to pick some sloes to have a go with those, & see if DH's friend has some spare plums!

OS jobs today include tackling the ironing mountain, cleaning the bathroom & clearing the [STRIKE]garbage[/STRIKE] paperwork from the dining room. I'd also like to bake some hobnobs & maybe some mini cheese & onion tarts for snacks. DS's nursery school is having a coffee morning next week for Macmillan, so I'm going to make some more hobnobs for that as well. Need to wash, so it'll have to go in the TD.

Off to change baby, as she's a bit fragrant now! :D:rotfl: Having a very early breakfast with her, will need a second one like a hobbit when DS/DH get up! :D

See you all later, hope your weather's better than mine! Hugs & kisses to all,

    A xxoo

    Hey all, congratulations falady!

It's so cold! Just having a big bowl of cinammon porridge to warm me up before the cold walk to work, to stand in the cold at work all day grrrr. Can come back and make myself a nice chicken stew with dumplings :) Not on my meal plan, but there's loads of sauce w/veg left over from chicken casserole pie last night so will add some chicken and make some herby dumplings to go with it.

    Congratulations Falady & family :j:beer::T

Lovely and peaceful here at the moment, I am the only one up :)

Had an interesting day yesterday, DD needed some new underwear and other bits so we decided to all go to Lakeside, DS really didn't want to go and kicked up a fuss & sulked all the way there. As soon as we got there he bumped into Billy Murry who used to be in Eastenders, its quite weird as last time we made him come shopping he bumped into one of his hero's Steve Tilson who used to be Manager of Southend FC. I might force him to come shopping in London so we could meet someone really good like Daniel Craig :rotfl:

Anyway, today is going to be a pottering around, get ready for the week ahead day. Have to watch DS play football first thing then need to pop to the shops to get a joint for dinner as I forgot to get one out of the freezer :( also need some packed lunch stuff while I am there.

Best get going & drag DS out of his pit. Have a great Sunday all.x
