Help with jobseekers!!!!

I can't believe that I'm afraid.
My sister worked with a teaching agency for the whole of last year and she wasn't even a qualified teacher yet. She was given temp jobs, from just a day up to a 14 days depending on the situation at the school, and these jobs were offered to her all year. She got a lot of work because she made herself available at short notice (ie a phone call at 9am and she'd be there by 9.30am), across about a dozen schools in the Leeds/Wakefield area. It was great experience as well.
She is now doing a PGCE, has to travel an hour to uni and to her placement each way, and is now looking for saturday or evening/bar work as well. She doesn't need to really, she's living at home and could probably get by easily on her student income and training bursary, but a bit extra always helps.
I also have another out of work teacher friend who does agency work all year.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and I don't see how nagging you that you should've worked during your PGCE is especially helpful seeing as you can't turn back the clock. But don't dismiss agencies just because it's the start of term, try a bit harder and you might be surprised.
Well I get up every morning at 7am to ring the agencies to see if any work has come in and then i ring at the end of the school day for the next day! I have joined SIX agencies and emailed all local schools!! Thing is because I am a qualified teacher I cost more to do supply so a schools first choice is somebody like your sister who wasn't qualified! I am not complaining just wanted some advice about what I could do or if somebody was in the same boat as me!0 -

Well, you never said that in your earlier posts, just that there was no work.
Sorry the JSA situation is less than ideal but short of appealing again I'm not sure what you can do. There are indeed lots of people in the same boat as you, the only answer is finding work. Good luck with the jobsearch.0 -

Agencies usually spend the mornings finding work themselves; calling them at 7 will just annoy them. Best to call first thing after lunch.
What other work are you calling about - seeing that it is the new school year and the need for teaching will be minimal? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
well Sambucus Nigra if the agencies tell me to ring at 7 thats the time I ring!! They put your name on the list and then ring you back if any work comes up. Do you work in a teaching supply agency then?
Yes i applied for shop work however I got no interviews! So I am trying. I have contacted the government for any work.0 -
Supply work is hard to get in the first few weeks of term. Come half term there will be more available.
I didn't work during my PGCE either, it would have been too much.0 -

I do loads of consultancy for recruitment agencies; buy hey ho.
Our business model results in placing the right people in the right jobs.....and finding work in the morning and the people in the afternoon.
Works for us!
Or perhaps you aren't the right person for the job....hmm....If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
It's more likely that widespread use of cover supervisors and the fact that we've only just had 6 weeks off mean that supply is in....short supply at the moment.Sambucus_Nigra wrote: »I do loads of consultancy for recruitment agencies; buy hey ho.

I don't think you understand how supply agencies operate. They are a bit different than recruitment agencies.0 -

Sambucus Nigra it just seems you are on here to make yourself feel better about yourself by putting other people down!! dont reply again or I will report it as abuse!0

I don't think they are putting you down? As I see it, they are trying to help.
Jobs are now coming back up on TES, have you had a look in your area?0 -

Dear me.
I can reply as and when I want - as this is an open forum.
Your attitude to bat away any suggestions or help that you have been given is just short of abusive yourself.
But hey ho - I've got a long day at work tomorrow so I'd best get on.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
